Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

I think he will be like Gary Mac when he came. He was at the tail end of his prime but with his calm personality and leadership qualities he stabilized our young team at the time.

Comparing him to Caicedo stats wise he ranked higher, even scored and assisted nine goals combined compared to Caicedo’s 0. Where Caicedo is better is age as he will improve but as snapshots go he ranked better (Caicedo is a better passer though). Also he got alot less yellows than Caicedo did. My gut is we will go for Andre in January and and they will interchange. Klopp likes the right personality and I think he has that personality.

I think it is a shrewd move.

Definitely a stopgap signing but not the worst one. I saw this guy play at the world cup, wasn't half bad. However, not good enough for this level IMO. He'd be something like Ragnar Klavan who I considered a solid, experienced player but simply not good enough for the top level. Hope I'm wrong though and he ends up being the second coming of Gary Mac.

Also, we were worried we would overpay for Lavia but at £15-18m we're definitely overpaying for Endo. He's 30 years old, has never played in a big club and has only one year left on his contract. I know the money we're paying is peanuts these days but if Hendo was worth £12m then Endo is worth £10m at most. Probably less.

Anyway, with all that said, I still support this signing, given the circumstances.

Lot of people expressing dismay at this signing. I'm not one of them.

I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about him before today but having delved into his career.

I'm thinking we might have just found a more than decent solution to our current problem at DM

At 30 he's obviously not one for the long term future but hopefully he will surprise us all for the next season or two.

Some have banged on about him playing for a poor team in Germany and how his low price indicates his footballing worth.

I remember that we signed Andy Robertson for £8 million from a relegated Hull, look at how that worked out !

Let's stop whinging, get behind and support the fella while no doubt work will go on to find longer term solutions for the DM role.

Personally I'm still hoping we can sign  Paulina  or Andre Trinidade   :buttrock

That lad from Brazil ain't coming. It's mid season and they won't find a replacement. Maybe in January

We can get the lad from Brazil but it will just cost a little bit more I reckon.

Just because we got this lad doesn't mean we don't need anyone else.  We need to follow it up with someone like Doucoure, Thuram or Trindade now and not in January or next summer. None of this rubbish we are going to wait for Gravenberch or Touachemei next year either or the right player isn't available now spiel. Get Doucoure and bin off Thiago if we have to to get it done.

Doucoure
Endo
Szob
Mac
Jones
Elliot
Bajcetic

Might have a chance at top 4 there.

Not knocking the lad at all as have never seen him play but just feels like it's a signing that Sheffield United or Fulham would make. He's already a success for most because he cost little and will get paid similar and that's before he's even kicked a ball. He's not played at any sort of a decent level and he's 31 after Christmas.

Anyway see how he gets on but it feels like we think we won the lotto.

Last summer Fulham spent £20m on 27 year old Joao Palhinha who'd never played outside of Portugal. Went on to be one of the best DMs in the league last season and we've been linked with a £50-70m move. Not saying it will be the same situation, but there are smart left field moves that can be made in the market in the absence of getting long term solutions. It's the sort of tactical (opposed to strategic) transfer we've not really made in recent years and on occasion it has cost us.

Clearly he's not going to be a world beater and we'll still be on the market for a long term target. But he's a specialist DM. An experienced DM. A club and national captain. He'll instantly give our team balance and allow others to play in their preferred position rather than be shoehorned to cover at DM. Long term he could provide useful cover.

Fair post Eagle.  Don't disagree at all and he could be a good signing.  I'm not convinced every player has to cost the earth either.
Just hope we follow it up now with our main target. Enough of hanging around waiting on lads who turned us down and get him in now.

I don't know a great deal about Endo but I do know that we need a defensive midfielder (or two).

As a replacement for Milner or Hendo, I think he'll do just fine. But hopefully we are working on another signing.

Good luck to the lad but it’s an underwhelming signing, let’s just hope the club have still got an ace or two up their sleeve this window

Reading Lavia saying he joined Chelsea because of their history   :glare:

He’s clearly an idiot

Not seeing any signs or rumors of another signing... This doesn't look very encouraging

This Endo kid looks so happy to be here.. nothing better than seeing a genuine smile on a player after signing for us. I'm really rooting for him, hope he turns out to be a big signing.

I'm confident the lad will work out well.
Meantime we have to find a long term solution.

News coming in is that Endo isn't a stopgap, he's our main defensive midfield signing of the summer and buisness is done in that area.

I was made to believe he was taking the "Milner" role of the experienced back up.. but it looks as though we're going to be cheapskates once again.
