Just reading that he is OK with the idea so won't force it and will leave the decision to the club   tbh was fearing they would come for him but thought it would be after our window closed. The big money they were reportedly willing to pay a while ago was 60mi which isn't worth it imo.

They seem to be paying less as a transfer fee to the owning clubs and more to the players as wages.

Brighton Managing director Paul Barber having a dig at Caicedo. Their manager De Zerbi didn't exactly sound pleased with his behaviour either. Doesn't sound like he left on good terms.

First of all Liverpool is a fantastic football club and for any footballer to have the chance to play at Anfield, you would imagine they’d be running up the M6.

But it wasn’t to be. Moises and his advisers decided, for whatever reason, that London was their preferred destination for a move and ultimately Chelsea.

Obviously in that situation we’re in a slightly difficult position because we negotiated a deal, we spent many days working with Liverpool to get a deal agreed and they couldn’t have done any more.

Liverpool were superb, professional throughout but it comes down to the player and at that point, we’re very much out of the loop because it’s a discussion between the player and Liverpool and the agent and then ultimately they come to a decision.

At the point it was clear that he wasn’t going to Liverpool, then we had to go into a different mode, because having negotiated a British-record transfer, we’ve then got to do it again three-days later which is unusual to say the least.

Caicedo was never going to come to us. Chelsea have been in his ear and working on a deal for a long time.

The one that feels where we lost out on is Lavia. Sounds he was totally up for coming to us and stings more.

They are not paying tax on any earnings so that in itself bumps up the allure.

How did it come to this though. 5 weeks ago him and his agent were vocal in that he ain't going anywhere and was staying to break records. Now its if the club want to sell its fine by me!!   Sounds like he isn't fully on board imo and it's probably because he realised we are going to struggle this year.

Yep Caicedo always sounded like a long shot. Sounded like Chelsea had him lined up for months. Some people are saying at least we showed ambition by going for a bigger target but to me it just looks like we cocked up and ***** ourselves with Lavia. Wonder how he felt when he saw news of the Caicedo bid after weeks and months of us telling him how much we wanted him to be our DM. In the end I'm guessing he said sod that and decided to take the bigger pay packet and London living. This is what happens when you have suits like Mike Gordon and Billy Hogan working on the detail of transfers rather than just being the final sense check. This is a return of the Ian Ayre days when we were missing out on players who wanted to come here because we had a suit leading the negotiations with agents and clubs. We really need to appoint a proper DOF soon.

Listen to the comments when he signed and you will know that he was never going anywhere else.  We got what we deserved over Lavia because we said he wasn't worth the money. I'd say the lad felt like absolute shyte looking at us then trying to pay way over the odds for someone else.

It hurts because we stung ourselves!!

The way to sort this is go out and make a statement signing, a Tchouameni or someone, not a £30m-£40m sticking plaster signing which is no doubt what we’ll do.
The owners have allowed the club to be publicly embarrassed over the past few days, they need to make amends

That and the fact he could probably make 3-4 times more. Players don’t care about records anymore, they only care about money. He was happy when he thought he was getting the maximum he could and now he knows he could make more. Last year and so far this year there has definitely been a decline in his effort, he’s not pressing like he did.

What's with all the shade being thrown at Mo? Based on what? Haven't seen any credible link to him wanting to chase the Saudi money.

He's getting older so naturally is going to lose pace. That will be evident in stuff like pressing and defending.  I am not so sure its about the money with him as he could have taken a big move elsewhere long before now. His stock was right up there a few seasons ago and he stayed. He did get a big payday here but it was much cheaper for us to do that over signing a replacement. It's easy to pin everything on greed but I think you are wrong with Mo. He has been nothing but a great signing for us since he came here and has never given any indication at all that he's about the money. Loads of clubs would have paid him plenty more than we would.

Was re reading an interview that Schmadtke gave when appointed and it clears a few things up.

On his role he said,  Jurgen Klopp sets the priorities, we then set him up with a team of data analysts Scouts and so on, so he can then choose from a list of players he wants to work with. Then I will deal with the different departments in the club and in the end the owners have to be satisfied with the investments.

On his relationship with Klopp,  if we like each other then maybe we can work together beyond this window,  let's see, then we continue or not.  We're not that close to each other,  we were in the Bundesliga at the same time,  He as a coach and I as a sports director, you know each other. I know his advisor Marc Kosicke better. He maintains a good exchange  with the owners of LFC.

At the time of that interview he had no idea as to what budget he had.  https://www.google.com/amp/s/talksport. ... sfers/amp/

Just wanted to post that as seen a lot of stuff saying Klopp has full control and is best buddies with the new lad he brought in.

Don't think anyone is throwing shade at him Mate. Just talking about the rumours that he apparently had a change of heart.

The Villa lad and Doucoure would be my choice from that list. Neither team will want to sell at this stage though.
From the list I'd be looking at Manu Kone. He's good at winning the ball back, and he's a great dribbler for a CDM. Apparently he's been quite injury prone this last year though.

Andre also looks very good.. but he's playing in the Brazilian league so not sure how he'll get on in the Prem.

I think Luis from Benfica is the perfect fit if we want a player like Fabinho. He plays exactly like him. He has a £120m release clause and Benfica drive a high price, so it might hard to get over the line.

It's crazy to think we were linked with both Enzo and Tonali before they were known players and both have gone for ridiculous money these last 2 windows.

Kone links were very strong until he got injured.  Think that ruled him out for fear he would probably take a while to recover. Fofana is another with the profile we usually go for but again he's another who's injured.

I think Klopp chose lavia from the list due to him having prem xp.

Enzo was good against us and I thought Tonali looked quite good in the Newcastle  game as well. Its bizarre we could have got them for a fraction of the price they are going for now. I just hope we make moves quick now because the quicker we get someone in the quicker they will adjust.

I know these are bored journos and will print anything for a click but realistically we can't afford to miss out on CL this season. If we do then we will lose players like this.
