When you don't want to sell or need to sell a player you stick a silly price tag on him and stick to it. I don't think we are any different in this aspect and will also refuse sales if its not what we value them at. Just because we are Liverpool does not mean other clubs need to accept whatever we feel they are worth.

We know the price and are just wasting time with lowball bids that will be refused. I agree he isn't worth 5 times what they paid last year but they seem hell bent on him being the one they want. They can always deploy their final tactic which is getting the player to force the move.

Just pay the money and get it done, quibbling over £7m-£8m is not a good look for a club of our size. Seven players have left and only two have come through the door and the season starts in less than a fortnight.

Southampton have rejected Liverpool's improved bid for Romeo Lavia, while Jurgen Klopp's side have officially made contact with Fluminense over the possibility of signing midfielder Andre.

Sky Sports News understands the Merseysiders' new offer for Lavia was still below an initial £40m, with Saints wanting £50m for the Belgian international.

The total package took them closer to that asking price, but, with a compromise yet to be reached, Liverpool are now considering alternative options, including Brazil international Andre.

The club's interest in the 22-year-old was heightened when he won his first cap for Brazil as a substitute in their friendly 4-2 defeat to Senegal in June.

Andre plays for Brazilian side Fluminese and has been capped by Brazil
Fluminense are reluctant to let Andre exit this summer, but the player is sold on a transfer to Anfield and a fee in the region of £20m has been mooted.

With so few games played for a team that went down and at only 19, there's no way of knowing if Lavia is really good or just had a few good games in a bad team and is no better than Bajcetic. Soton know we desperately need a DM now though so they'll stick to their asking price, which is their right. The kid is definitely not worth that much however, and it might be the best we looked elsewhere.

Hard to know if he is good enough or not Mate but the club seem to think so and they would have ran his stats. The second bid is reportedly just short of 40mil so I don't think they would sanction that if they thought that role could be filled by Bajcetic. We have spent a lot of time on this and made 2 bids so he had to be the No 1 target. Its just the usual stuff imo from FSG.

Maybe in time Baj can step into that role but it's a big ask now. He did well last year but it took a toll on him and he ended up with a serious injury. He's had no preseason either as he's still recovering so it's a massive risk.  Lavia would be a good signing as he has league experience alongside Mac. Szob doesn't and might take time to adjust.

On the little I've seen of him . admittedly through YouTube, the fella looks more than decent. Apparently we.ve scouted him on a few occasions and at 22 with over 100 games in Brasils top flight with Fluminense I be more than happy to see this fella join us ahead over the relatively untested Lavia

I read somewhere else that January seems more likely, at 20million it’s worth a shot as he seems technically skillful and has a good range of passing, something our counter pressing team needs. We have the runners in attack but last year the midfield couldn’t find them, it seems this year Klopp is addressing that issue in the midfielders he bought in.

From what I read we started tracking him a few weeks ago after he earned his 1st Brazil Cap. Also the transfer window closes in Brazil tonight so if its happening they would want to get the finger out.

Truth is we should be getting him and Lavia.

I'm not saying Bajcetic is our answer mate, I'm simply stating how absurd the asking price for Lavia is. What stats could the club have run on him when he's played so few games? Lavia could well prove to be a top player but with some 20 odd senior games played there's just no way to even assume anything about him. Jay Spearing probably had 20 good games ffs.

These are really worrying times with the season just around the corner. One injury to any of our midfielders and we are screwed!!

We need a defensive midfielder and a CB immediately. If we do nothing to fix this like we've done season after season then it's going to be another throw away season.

Sacha Tavolieri
@sachatavolieri
LiverpoolFC ready to make a third & ultimate offer for Romeo Lavia. I understand the bid will meet the 40M£ transfer fee expectations by #SaintsFC + add-ons. Player’s side just waiting for #LFC to activate but informed the club his desire to join the Reds. There’s a feeling that Klopp’s team are the only squad able to do such offer at that moment. Dialogue remains opens as #SouthamptonFC won’t let leave his biggest sale of the year with the financial impact of a relegation.
Deal still ON. #mercato

I do agree on the price and the amount of stats they could get in so few games. Wiki says he played 29 times for Soton last season. Whatever they could get from that I dont know but they would of having to have something when looking for the funding from FSG. I dont get to choose the targets unfortunately   So we just have to trust that they know what they are doing.

Most of our other targets have no prem experience, Are young and from lower leagues so i think this would be a good transfer. We got money from Hendo and Fab so its really only going to bump up the spend by 10 mil. 3 Mids for 100Mil isnt bad in this climate. That Brazilian would have been nice as well for 20mil and given us plenty of options for the season. Throw 30mil at a good back up defender and we would be at 150 mil. That would be a super window and we would have got 5 new players.

Never seen him play but certainly sounds interesting. Sounds unlikely we could get him until January but at around 20m euros it's probably worth it. Get 1 in now and this guy on 1st Jan.
