Why are we so WASTEFUL in front of goal!??

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

This topic has to be discussed I'm afraid. We did the same thing last season.

Today, Salah wastes so many chances. He must have had four gilt edged chances and scuffs the lot. Mane scuffs them, so does Bobby. We create so many chances and are so WASTEFUL in front of goal.

Then Danny boy, comes on as substitute, a man who has had No GAME TIME whatsoever, has one chance and sticks it in the top corner.

You can't afford to waste chances, especially in big matches. We could have scored Six goals today.

Why are we wasting so many chances in front of goal..? We are doing all the hard work creating the chances, then fcking it all up with the final ball/kick.

Discuss.....

Salah is playing well but when he shoots he just needs to stay more composed. I think maybe he is over trying due to what he did last season and possibly feels the pressure is on him. I mean the shot that went to olympus was perfectly set for a top corner belter.

The lads will come good just a few tweaks here and there but I'm sure the goals will flow. The good thing is we are creating chances.

As for Studge well his a natural goal scorer a natural striker so his finishing is bound to be better. I mean what a cracking strike, midweek he hit the bar and yesterday he found the net.

I hope he stays fit because we will need him. I feel soo confident when Studge plays rather than Solanke or Origi.

Their is no logical explanation...That's what makes a world class striker..Being composed at the right moment consistently over time...Maybe their is the pressure from last year? maybe because they are the only one which score?

Yes. We have been extremely wasteful in front and the bulk of the blame has to be laid upon the duo of Salah and Mane. Firmino less so because he is playing mainly the contributor role, linking up plays, not being selfish, etc. Salah has been suffering from the hangover of last season's high. Mane seems to have this mentality that he had taken back seat last season playing in his less favorite side so now he seems to think that he needs to be more selfish. What's clear is that Klopp needs to act quick, put this trio aside and tell them they need to play for each other.

As for Sturridge we got to remember that the type of player he is is different from the type of players like Firmino, Mane and Salah are. That is part of the reason Klopp feels that Sturridge doesnt fit into his playing style. Players like Sturridge, Torres and Owen seems to be a dying breed in today's football. They are like specialist goal scorers even though Sturridge is slightly different in the sense that he could when called upon to play wide. But you could see from his move from Chelsea to Liverpool that he does better being relied upon as a goal scorer. The overall work rate of these type of players may not be as good as a player like Firmino, but given the chance or a half chance in front of goal, they are more lethal. Players like Firmino, Mane and Salah are like attacking midfielders or wide forwards playing as strikers, like 3 false 9's. Last season's Salah's efficiency was an anomaly IMHO. They (the trio) could still be efficient but only if they play for each other.

You really need to pipe down Boyo.  With your silly loudmouth childish outbursts and insults, you are revealing to the Forum that you have the I.Q. of a peanut!

I think the boys need some shooting practice on the training pitch during the week.

One thing I've noticed is that our front three can only mainly shoot from Inside the 18 yard box also. When was the last time they scored from outside the area?

Very few of our team (and none of our midfielders) can really shoot/score on target from outside the box, But I would say this is a crucial tactic especially against teams who park the bus and are difficult to break down etc.

Danny boy demonstrated on Saturday how it is done. Shaqiri is the only other player I can think of in our squad who will take on a shot from outside the box and can score from that range.
