Disagree. Palace away is a tough away game on paper but Gomez and VVD kept Zaha, Benteke and Co, reduced to half chances.

That was a decent test, and Joe should be given a decent run now to prove his worth, as Lovren and Matip have certain frailties to their game.

Gomez is happy to be the support for Van Dijk whereas Lovren is literally squaring up to him, two strong experienced voices.

Sometimes that can work against the partnership with two aggressive guys than one who is passive and work under instruction to form a pair.

Feel we have undervalued Lovren at Liverpool but Gomez is proving to be a threat to him and that's all good.

Man of the Match today - excellent again , his close marking whilst can be very risky is superb and seems to have a great turn of pace

VVD was again MOTM for me, the guy has been so good that we're not used to him making a few small mistakes in a game and consider such performances as below par.

Gomez however was just as good as Virgil today and has actually been outstanding since the start of the season. His pace and his ability on the ball make him the perfect partner for VVD IMO.

Man of match for me too. He has a bit more class than Matip or Lovren if you ask me.

If he keeps his game at this level he'll be a big player for us. If he improves, he'll become better than VVD.

Still early but he has than Varane - Ramos explosiveness that most defenders lack and is so valuable in today's game. What a start to the season !

His peformance against Spurs cemented his place as first choice centre back, I cant see Lovren or Matip breaking back in unless there is an injury, suspension or rotation. Gomez and Van Dijk compliment each other perfectly and we look rock solid at the back for the first in what feels like forever.

The lad is just quality ,oozes class and alongside the big Dutchman (not before time) he's practically cemented his place in our back line for the foreseeable.

In all probability if Joe had played at CB he would have still been fit for a crucial run of games ,needless changes at the back from the manager.

I wouldn't say a needless change, but Joe definitely shouldn't have been the one replacing Arnold.

Regardless, worse time to get injured, ahead of a crucial run of games. Will definitely be missed. Get well soon Joe.

Gomez and VVD complement each other really well you can tell their understanding is really good.

Lovren and Matip need to be on par in this busy season.

I am surprised that players aren’t subjected to these injuries on a more frequent basis given the amount of ***** that is only a couple of yards away from the sidelines at many grounds. Look at the fkg hill that Sturridge had to climb up at Turf Moor to get back on the pitch. The players cost LFC a small fortune. Whatever happened to health and safety. It wasn’t Mee that did the damage it was the shight underneath an advertising hoarding !! Sorry looked at it again - all to do with Mee and very little to do with the hoarding !!
