Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Postby Reg » Mon Jan 08, 2018 2:29 am

If you brought an untried 22 year old Lemar into the team are you saying he'd adapt and play the Coutinho role? And we'd quickly extend our 17 match unbeaten streak? It aint going to happen even if we did buy him, we need some experience right now. Maybe Klopp thinks we have sufficient experience in-house than panic buying someone from the french league with no experience of football of EPL intensity etc.. Anyway I'm sure better minds than ours are going through the options at the club....

Spurs will not be able to keep Harry Kane and avoid big-money move like Philippe Coutinho's to Barcelona if he wants out, says Mauricio Pochettino: 'How do you stop it?'

Can(??)  Lallana(Keita)

Salah                     Mane
           Firmino

          (??????)

Klopp should go for a quality centre forward which would work out better for us. Firmino could play in the middle just off the striker.
That way if Salah is out we won't have to worry too much on how will we get goals.

The way things are if Salah is out we could potentially struggle to score or break down teams.

I learned 2 things yesterday:
1. That Coutinho paid 11.5 million of his own money to make up the Liverpool valuation.
2. That Couts was determined to leave now in case he either got injured during the rest of the season or Barcelona bought someone else.

Under those circumstances it wasn't the club cashing in but a player determined to leave.

Now, this doesn't happen at Citeh, Chelsea or United because the clubs are established EPL winners and CL winners/contenders.
Liverpool are neither so our players do have dreams of moving to 'bigger clubs'. LFC is not their final move or ultimate club.
If RM come in for Salah in 12 months, we have a problem. Similarly if Bayern Munich come knocking on Mane's door.

What Liverpool have got to do now is NOT panic, but spend the money wisely and bring in a BIG name to replace Couts. If we can do that then we demonstrate our determination to push into the european top echelons  and become equal status with RM, Chelsea, PSG in terms of credibility.

Don't waste the money FFS on another Carrol or Balotelli. We paid 32 million for Benteke, right? Take your freakin' time and get the right players.

By the way, anyone who thinks we didn't buy Keita as replacement for Coutinho is deluding themselves.

It's happening at Chelsea with Hazard and I'd argue if Barca or Real sounded out a Utd player then they'd go as well (De Gea was supposedly a fax machine away himself). They don't have any stand out South American players either.

Read us being linked to Alisson Becker (Roma's keeper) - maybe the penny is finally dropping  :D

Whether the money has been spent or not is open for discussion. We'll likely be able to draw conclusions at the end of the summer window.

After reading I wish him well. It's easy to lose your rag and call him a scroat. All the best Phil, smash it over there.

The lure of playing and living (LIVING!!) in Barcelona was too much for him - I think a lot of that proves nothing about being a 'selling club' or anything of the sort. He loves Liverpool, but this is Barca.

We can't offer him that.

I feel attacking wise we still will be good but not as eloquent as we are when Coutinho played. We will struggle at times but remember we have Salah.
Its not all doom and gloom we still have good players here.
If we can get Keita in early i would be chuffed.

To me it's more the signals the club are sending out by selling our best player and not bending over backwards trying to replace him. It's not the actions of a club desperate to win things imo.

Yes...like the strong signals we sent out when we bought Andy Fucking Carroll for £35M to replace Torres and that POS Balotelli to replace Suarez

The Telegraph has been running the same story, along with some interesting insight into the decision on Coutinho.

Yeah, you conveniently forgot to mention that we bought Suarez as well as Carroll to replace Torres, we actually did well when we 'rushed' out to get a replacement for Fernando.
Balotelli is what happens when you try to replace a top player on the cheap, instead of taking the Suarez money and spending it all on another top player we went for the scattergun approach and bought Balotelli, Lallana, Lovren etc etc.
If I remember correctly we brought in 9 players that summer.

Agree with everything you say Reg. Amazed about Coutinho paying money towards his transfer. Absolutely amazed. It also turns out he is injured after all. For 3 weeks to be exact.

Klopp will already know who he wants to buy. He won't panic, but he might wait until the summer.

I am prepared to wait until the summer to get the right person. The other lads will have a lot of fun coping until then.

No, buy people now. Preferably big bucks on someone we've never heard of. That chap Markovic looks promising...
