Didn't Dortmund get a similar fee up front for that 20 year old kid? lol we really are a joke of a club these days, 4+ years left on his contract and no buy out clause and we still get taken the cleaners.

Barca have the best player to ever kick a ball (arguably), players are going to want to go there, they're based in Spain. Once his head was turned it was game over. The lure of playing for Barca are Real is too much to compete with. No team in England can compete with it (maybe City can but that's money related)
The club have had months to piece together a plan for when he goes, selling him this early in the window makes no sense otherwise. If we don't get anyone in I'll be peeved like

We held his contract mate, it had 4+ years left on it and no buy out clause. We could have kept him if we wanted to, yes he might have f**ked off to Brazil in a huff for a few weeks but like Tevez he would have soon come back once he saw the money stop going into his bank.
No way on earth would he have wasted away the best years of his career by going on strike or downing tools, once he knew we were serious about keeping him he would have knuckled down, and with the likes of Van Dijk and Keita arriving he would have thought to himself I might have a chance of winning something here if I pull my finger out.
Truth is it was just too tempting for the club to turn down, buy a player for eight million and sell him five years later for a hundred and forty million, it's a business man's dream.
