Tapping up goes on all the time. We've had it done to us with Suarez and Sterling in recent times, it's nothing new. £50-60m is already too much imo and don't think Southampton can realistically think they can get more. Apparently both City and Chelsea are reluctant to go over that and will look elsewhere. Maybe City/Chelsea would be able to structure the payment so that Southampton get more of it upfront and maybe that's why they would prefer to sell to one of those two, who knows.

May also just be bit of a stunt to show their fan's they haven't let yet another one of their players go without a little fight and maybe trying to push Van Dijk into handing a transfer request so he forgoes any bonuses, payments etc.

I'm not overly sold on Van Dijk. Good defender yes, does suit Klopp's style as he is good on the front foot snuffing out danger and maybe he can push on to become a cracking world class defender.

However, I'm not totally convinced with his concentration levels and noted on a number of occasions he ball watches. Everyone has bad games however do remember watching him in one game vs spurs after we were first linked and he scored early on but from a defensive point of view I thought he was dreadful on the day and was all at sea up against Kane and Alli. Again, one game doesn't make or break a player but there were a few other instances which  didn't leave me totally convinced.

Overall, think he is good  premiership defender but not as good as he is being made out to be.........yet. Who knows, maybe he can get there if he pushes on

Buying club: "We agree to your counter-proposal"

Selling club: "Hello Player 1. Guess what - we've just received an offer from another club out of the blue and we're OK for you to talk to them."
Player 1: "Wow, I had literally no idea. I wonder how much they're willing to pay me!"

No transfer has ever happened like that. This is just part of the negotiating stage which may or may not result in an agreement. My guess is that we’ve offered something completely at odds with what Southampton want (i.e. Sakho+Ings+£5mil). And then Southampton play their card by reporting us the PL, putting them on the front foot and us on the back foot. Didn’t they report us over Clyne too? I remember that Spurs reported us over Robbie Keane before we agreed a deal with them. I don’t think this has too much bearing on the transfer apart from the fact that Southampton are making it clear that they won’t take no Sh*t and will only sell for what they see is a good price.

God I hope the Van Dijk and Salah deals don't fall through now, I've actually got my heart set on them coming now.
I've been watching YouTube vids of Salah and although he isn't as skillfull as say someone like Mahrez what he does do is follow shots in, for a wide man he gets a lot of tap ins and rebounds which sounds easy but actually requires an awful lot of effort. For every one of those tap ins he's probably followed 20 or 30 shots in, he's obviously got a great work ethic which will suit us down to the ground.

Southampton say they recieved no offer from us and hes not for sale ? WTF

That new Arsenal LB Kolasinac seems good from reports I've read. Im surprised we didn't go for him. Being in the bundesliga i thought maybe Klopp would have had an eye on him.

It's starting to look like we can't get our number 1 targets in.

Planted news by the club I reckon. Trying to show Roma that Salah isn't our world.

We do a bit too much of this sort thing IMO. We'll end up with a bad rep in the market both with selling clubs and agents and it's already cost us players in the last couple of years. If Roma do want 40mil Euros, that's about market value to be honest.

Pay the money, get the player. It's a simple concept over-complicated by many at our club.
Get the lad at the club, get him training and at least if Klopp's mental training sessions kill him he'll still be under warrenty so we can take him back for a refund.

Well that's how it works in M&S anyway.

Problem with FSG is they get out of deals when all they have to do is give a few more million. Salah deal is taking the mick now.

I was hoping this year would be different and we would actually get the players we want but its looking like the same old shyte again. All that talk of us having the groundwork done since last year was just spin. I know the window isn't even open yet but the same familiar pattern is emerging.
Now that VVD has chosen his preferred destination it will take a monumental fook up for it to not go through. We will see if we are willing to put our money where our mouth is.

I think the week after the internationals are over we'll have 1 or 2 players travelling to Melwood. Either way nothing will be announced officially by the club until after the internationals. Solanki was out of contract so his situation was different.

There will be a bit of activity by clubs in the last 2 weeks of June just before pre-season begins but not much before.

To be fair to the club it's a tricky balance to strike, yes we want to sign quality players but at the same time we don't want to be completely rinsed either. As much as we want to sign him no way on earth is Salah worth £40m.
