Fernando Torres could return to Anfield to honour departing captain Steven Gerrard in March.

During the upcoming international break at the end of March, Gerrard has invited some of his former friends and team-mates to the home of Liverpool to play in a special testimonial match.

Marca report that Gerrard has invited over Torres, along with Xabi Alonso and Luis Suarez, to play in the one-off match on March 29. Pepe Reina and Javier Mascherano are also on the 34-year-old's list.

Gerrard was said to be heartbroken when Torres left the club in a £50million switch to Chelsea, where the Spaniard struggled to recapture the form that made him an icon on Merseyside.

The match is set to celebrate Gerrard's lifelong commitment to the club, ahead of his move to LA Galaxy at the end of the season, with whom he has signed a two-year deal.

Gerrard's final appearance for Liverpool is likely to be the league game against Crystal Palace at Anfield, on the final day of the season on May 16.

Torres' record transfer to Stamford Bridge on January deadline day 2011 turned out to be a flop with the striker never hitting the heights he experienced during his Anfield days.

The Spaniard departed to Milan initially on loan before making the move permanent earlier this year, although he is currently on loan at boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

I'd love to see the lads get back together again...  :bowdown

Good post this Reg, thanks for sharing it,

I would like to see the old lads back as well and that includes Torres, i have no bad feelings for him especially after the way things worked out for him, kind of feel sorry for him tbh

Wonder who we would play against ??  AC Milan? Everton? or a mix-match team of players

Fantastic. That should be worth seeing.
Torres, Suarez, Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Gerrard etc.
Jeez, if they were all in their prime at the same time........ what a dream-team that would be.
I've got over the Torres thing. He has tried to explain himself, and I'd have happily taken him back in a red shirt when he was leaving Chelsea. In fact, I think I'd rather have Torres (in his prime) and Suarez up front in my dream team in preference to Messi and Neymar, but maybe I'm biased because FT and LS are both former reds who served us well (even if they both left under considerably stormy clouds). I try not to bear grudges, it's the fond memories that linger.

I don't think stevie will have any problems finding a side to play against. He could probably have his pick against any top club out there, real, barca or bayern would honor him along with many top players past and present. He would even sell out wembley for this I reckon.

What a wonderful reception the old players got yesterday, the fans were amazing as always.

I got goosebumps seeing Suarez and Torres playing together and even (embarrassingly) abit emotional. I think deep down Torres knows he made a error leaving the club the way he did, and even though he won major titles at Chelsea he still regrets it.

I'm glad the fans gave him a good reception, because he brought some magical moments to us fans when he was here... moments that can't be forgot.

I wish him all the luck in the world YNWA

I missed the match :( anyone fancy doing a write up? I love these matches. I'd like to know line ups, subs, goals, any amusing or emotional moments if anyone will oblige, please :)
