Ayre is just the face of it and my suspicion is his hands are tied somewhat when he goes out into these negotiations - end of the day, he is not fronting the money.

To be honest I also felt we needed a powerful midfielder more anyway but still feel a bit gutted.

Even if that's the case (and it's only speculation) then why do we pin our hopes on doing business with a Ukrainian team (who are well known in the game to be difficult to deal with) right at the end of the window when we're up against it in terms of time?? Even if we did all we could to get the deal done and got screwed over in the end, then questions have to be asked about why we selected Konoplyanka as a target in these circumstances.
Something is not right in terms of the process. I don't know whether that lies with the owners, the 'transfer committee' (whoever they actually are), Ayre, those underneath Ayre, or the scouting network and Rodgers who must take into account how available targets actually are before recommending we go for them. Sacking Commolli clearly hasn't made us any more efficient, so it's time to look at the whole process rather than individuals.
If we miss out on top 4 then questions about our January recruitment will be asked. In my opinion these questions need to be asked now so we have things sorted in time for the next window.

Because he was the player BR wanted to improve the first team. That's what you do.
Like most on here, I'm gutted we didn't improve over January but I'm also glad we didn't panic buy rubbish, as we've done in the past.
