Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Was a hard deal to do but this stems from missing out on Salah. We are a business first and then a football club under FSG. Ayre is just the face of it and my suspicion is his hands are tied somewhat when he goes out into these negotiations - end of the day, he is not fronting the money.

If the owners make X amount available it's up to him and the others to spend it. For some reason that isn't happening.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Well, I said when they took over that I would like to avoid american owners. Always looking at the profit margins and bottom line
when that should be way down they list if you want to run a european football club.
Like most businessmen just looks here and now and ***** what happens in the future or to the world as a whole.

Oh my..Fulham signed Holtby and Mitroglou. Shame. I really like those two, especially Holtby, and they would have been really good additions to the team.

It is better to pay abit more and secure a transfer than try to negotiate too much and miss out on all the transfers... I think this is down to the negotiating team not being football Ppl... BR should be part of the process of completing deals... Only he knows which players he really wants and which players are not worth to over pay...

The January window is always difficult, last year we did well because the players we bought weren't getting games
at their respective clubs.
From the sound of it we did all we could to get this guy in, that said every window we seem to leave it till the last day,
I just don't get that at all.

Feel sorry for Brendan.

To be honest I also felt we needed a powerful midfielder more anyway but still feel a bit gutted.

We need to get our injured players back soon. It's a shame we can't bring any of Borini, Wisdom, Suso  and Assaidi back to give us some depth.

Don't be so quick to blame lfc or it's owners. This deal was done as far as the club was concerned. This billionaire owner of theirs pulled this remember. We'd done our bit.

I'm with you on that mate.

Gutted that we didn't sign anyone to strengthen the squad, but a "powerful" cm/dm would have been my preference.

I'm not that fussed that we didn't sign Konoplyanka. He's admittedly a very good player but I never understood why this window we seemed to be bent on chasing players who predominately play a wide mid/wingers role. In my book that position was never a priority that needed to be addressed right now.

Even if that's the case (and it's only speculation) then why do we pin our hopes on doing business with a Ukrainian team (who are well known in the game to be difficult to deal with) right at the end of the window when we're up against it in terms of time??  Even if we did all we could to get the deal done and got screwed over in the end, then questions have to be asked about why we selected Konoplyanka as a target in these circumstances.

Something is not right in terms of the process.  I don't know whether that lies with the owners, the 'transfer committee' (whoever they actually are), Ayre, those underneath Ayre, or the scouting network and Rodgers who must take into account how available targets actually are before recommending we go for them.  Sacking Commolli clearly hasn't made us any more efficient, so it's time to look at the whole process rather than individuals.

If we miss out on top 4 then questions about our January recruitment will be asked.  In my opinion these questions need to be asked now so we have things sorted in time for the next window.

Because he was the player BR wanted to improve the first team. That's what you do.

Like most on here, I'm gutted we didn't improve over January but I'm also glad we didn't panic buy rubbish, as we've done in the past.

I'm pretty sure ,Kono's name came up 4 days ago...That's not how a serious organization does Biz. If BR wanted that guy ,we should have started dealing on Jan 1st and not wait for the dying minutes of the window....It was Panic negotiating if nothing else..

I'm guessing BR's first choice was Salah...we didn't get him so you move on to your next choice, which was Konoplyanka. I don't think it was panic buying, it was moving on to your next choice.
