People tend to remember the good things they did rather than the reality so they tend to say " I can do that" when they see a player do something which is true but not accurate, they should have said " I have done that".
I have scored some great goals in my life where I hit the ball so perfectly and those moments are easy to remember vividly, I have missed some absolute sitters and those are much easier to forget. A lifetime of remembering the best moments of my ability can make me think I was better than I was. Best way to see how good you actually are is watch yourself on video on a regular basis, you will look good sometimes and you will look average most times, if you are being honest with your assessment that is.
You are only as good as your worst day, you are never as good as your best day except on that day
I was brilliant on occasions, I can't remember being bad at all

I have medals and trophies proving I was good, I have no proof to show I was not so good
