They had two on the trot recently because they changed it to being every odd year (I think)
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Liverpool FC should discover by the end of the week whether their pursuit of Willian has proven successful as the Brazil winger arrives in England to decide his future.

Willian is scheduled to jet in to the country inside the next 24 hours having already revealed his next move will be to a Premier League club.

Liverpool remain in pole position for the 25-year-old’s signature after last week opening talks with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala over a possible transfer.

However, the move alerted Tottenham Hotspur whose manager Andre Villas-Boas refused to deny reports his team have also registered an interest in the player. And while Willian will hold talks with Liverpool, he may also have discussions at White Hart Lane as he considers his options.

Willian has been made available for transfer despite having only joined Anzhi for £32million from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January.

Anzhi’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov is looking to cut costs having bankrolled the club for the last two years, but any hopes of a significantly reduced sale have been dashed by an asking price believed to be in the region of 30m euros.

Liverpool are in negotiations in an attempt to drive down the fee, but could have their hand forced should Tottenham table a bid for the attacking left midfielder.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hopes to address another problem position with left-back Aly Cissokho close to completing his switch to Anfield.

A deal was agreed last week with Valencia over a season-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer, with the 25-year-old France international now on Merseyside to undergo a medical and finalise terms.

If Willian decides to talk to Spurs ,then it will be another Sigurrdson scenario .I dont know why players who supposedly want to play
for the reds so much need to talk to other clubs. ???  If its just about money with Willian  ,then fuck him, just think of the
money we would save on afro combs anyway .

Willian will go to whoever pays him more, plain and simple and get the feeling we are gonna throw a shed load of cash his way to get the deal done

I would really like to see us get Willian, but in the pit of my stomach i fear spurs will outdo us once again

I am interested to know who BR has in mind as a plan b though, if we fail on Willian then who do we go for?

Russian journalist Nobel Arustamyan reports this Tuesday morning that Tottenham have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Brazilian midfielder Willian. Arustamyan is considered a reliable source on account of the fact he is the deputy editor in chief of Radio Sport in Russia, a commentator on Russia’s ‘NTV Plus and a regular host on Anzhi’s radio channel. Tottenham have reportedly reached agreement with Anzhi for Willian and the probability of a transfer is “now very high,” according to Arustamyan.

Russian website Sports.ru also confirm the suggestion, adding that a medical examination at Spurs is imminent with personal terms also set to be discussed. Liverpool were thought to be the front runners for Willian until Spurs moved in early this week. Brendan Rodgers’ side are understood to have offered Anzhi 30 million euros plus a 50% sell-on clause for Willian.

If we did offer that and it isn't enough then I'm glad we missed out. Spurs are the mugs for being held to ransom and well overpaying.

Although it isn't a like for like comparison, both the Sigurdsson and Dempsey deals were hijacked by Spurs, both transfers were well over the real value of the players and look how they turned out. Hardly an advert for transfer value.

Most transfers are over the real value of the players - if a club isn't willing to pay more than the value then they will lose out on the player. Especially when it comes to players that are being looked at by other clubs - if we lose out to Spurs for a player like Willian - that tells a story that we can't compete for players in the upper brackets of quality. Gone are the days where a Torres preferred us over the Mancs.

I think Benny is pushing another myth.

The Russian club have accepted both bids by all accounts from us and spuds, it's simply Willian's choice. And if further reports are to believed we have, or could offer more in wages than Spurs. AVB has a friendly record with Willian and had tried to sign him when he was at Chelsea and in January for Spurs.

Agree with Kenny here.

Lots of reports before the weekend claiming Anzhi had accepted our bid. Then more reports came out saying Anzhi had accepted both ours and spurs bids and it was down to the player to decide.

Now it seems the player prefers Spurs (possible due to AVB being after him previously?)

By all accounts, from the little we know of such tranfer dealings, and the supposed "ITK"'s on twitter, I believe we've done all that we can in trying to secure the player.

If he chooses another team over us, there's nothing more we could have done.

Willian IS the plan B. Or actually the plan C or D.

I say f*ck him. He and his club want way too much money. The player himself is clearly after the money and that isn't the attitude we require. It wasn't such a bad thing when we missed out on Dempsey and Sigurdsson wasn't it?

Did read one rumour that Levy & AVB sold him a better vision than Ayre & Rodgers.
