Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Luis was on £40k a week when he joined which was a great deal for LFC. His wages were doubled to £80k a week plus bonuses last summer. Due to achieving certain targets his wages went up to £120k a week after Christmas last year. If double his wages is £160k a week I'd get him to sign tomorrow morning before he changes his mind !!! If it meant paying him £200k a week I'd still pay it because if we failed to qualify for CL he will leave anyway next summer. It could be the best £5m we spend in a very long time !!!
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

He doesn't deserve more money from us - if he stays he honours his contract. He has done nothing but disrespect the club and fans that have stuck by him whilst he makes a ***** of himself.

i cant see this rumour being true myself but if you put aside his antics if anyone has deserved big money it`s him.
last summer we blew £33m on players who contributed very little to the team, giving an extra £5m to someone who scored 30 goals and carried the club for half the season doesnt seem too bad when you look at it from that perspective.
personally i`d rather pay top players top money than see millions frittered away on transfer fee`s and wages for squad players who you know wont make an impact in the premier league.
even if we doubled his wages he wouldnt be the top paid player in the country or anywhere near it, what he is asking is probably below the going rate for someone of his quality, if he went to city or chelsea or even arsenal he`d be earning more.

If he wants to go then it would be best to sell him. But I'd rather raise his wages than sell him to Arsenal, as long as he doesn't keep sulking around acting all unhappy and uninterested.

this is not about suarez its about liverpool football club, suarez is just the latest in a long line of quality players who have left the club over the past 4/5 years.
infact torres was saying the exact same things as suarez, torres was saying he was promised by the owners that liverpool would be signing other top players but they never came.
i think LFC just want one or two top players to sell shirts, keep the fans happy and to stay relatively competative, but these days 1 or 2 top players isnt enough to make you are top side anymore.
the likes of suarez and torres arent prepared to waste their careers being shirt sellers for a club that has no genuine ambition of competing for the top prizes in the game.
it`s no use blaming suarez, this situation is going to keep on repeating itself until the club decides it genuinely wants to compete.
this time next year no doubt you will be calling coutinho all the names under the sun, because i`m telling you someone with his ability wont be playing outside the CL for long either.
yes modern players are mercenaries but it`s the club here that lacks the ambition, not the players, they want silverware and if liverpool arent interested in doing what it takes to win silverware they`ll go elsewhere.[/quote]

all too true  :nod

what? you fuking loony! clueless idiot!

£5m and he stays? He did more than disrespect the club last season ...     20 odd fuking goals to start with. without some of which we'd have finished lot lower than we did. £5m - get him signed up for next season. we need him for the push for 4th.

You don't know what Suarez was told when he signed the new deal and we have a history of luring players into signing
contracts with the promise of top footballers coming in and in the end this contributed to Torres departure.

I know he has been backed to the hilt by the club but he may feel an injustice himself in terms of the project he signed
up for and the calibre of players we have recruited so far and another year treading water looks very much on the cards
at this point.

Two cans short of a full crate - DEFINITELY

Genius on the pitch - DEFINITELY

Disrespectful - POSSIBLY (but so are his critics)

Deserves a wages increase - YES (based on the like of Rooney getting £250k a week)

IS THERE A BETTER WAY FOR LFC TO SPEND £5m - DEFINETLY NOT

Even if we did offer him an improved contract that will do nothing to improve the overall squad... so whilst maybe ok smooth things over now we could still be discussing the same rumors this time next year. We need to splash out on better players, not just pay him a shed load of money. If we can't get in better players then we should let him leave. It's really not that complicated.

There is that.

Nah sorry no more pay rises for a player who doesn't want to be at the club - giving him extra money may keep him at the club but we know he still wants to leave. If no one bids the right amount then he stays and on his current very lucrative contract.

Not in a millions does he deserve to get his wages doubled. Shanks and Bob would have thrown him out of the club by his ankles by now.

And Tubby how do you think those discussions would go if we qualify for the CL next year? It really is not that simple !!! In fact there is absolutely nothing simple about the situation whatsoever other than your somewhat simplified view  :grinning:

That's about the crux of it - with Spurs buying Soldaldo we drop further away - keeping Suarez won't get us 4th ( it will help us stay 6th/7th )

What needs to happen to get 4th is buying quality players - the owners dipping in to challenge Spurs for players like Paulinho , Soldaldo

Diamao is available - lets get him plus Eriksen plus Pappadoulus etc and show Suarez we have the intent and ambition to get CL football.

I don't think Manchester United were overly excited about Rooney's behaviour and having to increases his wages to £250k a week back in 2010. They kept a key player and went on to win the league for the 19th time. He is still with them and guess fkg what they won the league for the 20th time last season. Oh bollocks they missed the title on goal difference in 2011/2012. I bet United are absolutely gutted for allowing him to be so disrespectful and paying him £250k a week.......... I can hear all the United fans saying I'd willingly give up titles 19 and 20 if that disrespectful twat had left.

The situations between the two are massively different. There is no comparison - Rooney just wanted more money back in 2010 not to actually leave the club !
