Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

Liverpool is still a very prestigious and well respected club with a huge following but in terms of financial
power are now very much in the second tier and the reality is our best players are just cherry picked these
days.

If you can keep top 4 you have half a chance of keeping your best players happy but as Arsenal found that
isn't even a guarantee.

There is no solution other than what we are doing, and you just have to try and keep improving whilst turning
good profits over in the transfer market year on year and hope that eventually you can claw your way back
into the champs league.

Unless Arsenal reach 50 million+ there is nothing to talk about.
Real can have him for 40-45 million, and I can't really stand them either...

If Suarez leaves I'm assured of one thing.  After hearing the YNWA from our Aussie brothers and sisters, he is not of the same ilk as us.  Face it.  If any of us had the means, we would pay to be able to put on that red shirt every week.  Unfortunately, todays footballer seems far removed from the thoughts we have.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Brendan Rodgers has warned Arsenal to 'put up or shut up' in their pursuit of Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez .

The Reds boss insists the Gunners must significantly increase their bid of £40million plus £1 to have any hope of landing the Uruguayan.

Rodgers, who recently said he ranks Suarez in the same class as Edinson Cavani who joined Paris St-Germain from Napoli for £55million, dismissed suggestions that the Londoners' latest offer had triggered a release clause in the player's contract

Suarez, who made his first Liverpool appearance for three months in yesterday's 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory, was scheduled to fly with the squad from Australia to Thailand today for the final leg of the tour.

“For me, it is work as normal,” Rodgers said.

“There is no change for me or for Luis. He is a paid player at Liverpool Football Club so he just needs to get on with getting himself fit.

“That’s how it is. Until somebody tells me something different that is what all my concentration will be on.

“If Arsenal want the player then they have to produce the value for the player.

“There was an offer a few weeks ago of £35million and two weeks later it is now £40million and £1. I don’t think it is anywhere near the value of what he is worth.

“It is two-fold really. A player may want to go, but then somebody has to pay the value or worth of that player.”

Arsenal, whose current record transfer fee is the £15million they spent on Andrey Arshavin in 2009, expect Suarez to try to force the issue by telling Liverpool he wants to join the Gunners.

However, the Reds have no intention of granting him that wish unless there is a suitably attractive offer on the table.

Suarez’s agent Pere Guardiola believed a bid of more than £40million would allow his client to move on but Liverpool have always insisted that is not the case.

Asked if the Reds simply had to inform Suarez of offers in excess of that figure, Rodgers said: “Absolutely. That's it. There is nothing more than that.”

Rodgers discussed Arsenal's new bid with Suarez prior to yesterday's game in front of a crowd of more than 95,000.

The manager is confident last season's top scorer will continue to apply himself for Liverpool while this summer-long saga continues.

“It may be a distraction, but players are paid enough money now to produce for their clubs and he just has to keep his professionalism, which he has done,” Rodgers said.

“He was okay to go on to the pitch and his concentration was fine.

“I am not worried about him (in that sense), but there will be no games played at Liverpool. He is part of the group and he knows the standard you have to meet at this club, on and off the field.

“After a long flight and then double training sessions Monday and Tuesday and then the game he's just a wee bit weary.”

Liverpool aren't prepared to allow the uncertainty surrounding Suarez to drag on into August, potentially damaging the start of their Premier League campaign.

Asked if there would be a cut-off point for the Reds to even consider offers, Rodgers said: “Yes and that period will come soon.”

Philippe Coutinho and Kolo Toure both missed yesterday's game due to minor injuries but could return in Sunday's match against Thailand in Bangkok.

Sounds good. Hopefully we stick by this and If come August or whenever the date is a suitable offer is not made well then he should be made to stay. Too many people seem to be able to bring this great club down and its time that we stood up for ourselves and stood up for  the Legends of this club.

I'm resigned to him leaving now, my worry is Arsenal and Suarez himself wait until the 11th hour and then make a move to force it through. South American footballers, I should have known  :D

I don't know whether it was just a preseason game or what, but LS did not celebrate after he set up the goal for Aspas. It all shows that he wasn't really happy being a Liverpool player. I remember McManaman was the same when he wanted out, even when he scored, his head was down and looked downright depressed. The same is happening to LS now. He's a world class player at the moment and deserves to play CL football and Liverpool at the moment and he knows too that Liverpool will not be in it in the near future. Thus he wants out and I don't blame him. I would rather see him go to RM for 40M than going to Arsenal for 55M. I am not bitter at mercenaric players like him as today's world class players are mercenaric anyway, but I am bitter at the way how poorly the club has been run and  managed in recent years.  We had conmen owners who almost bankrupt the club, we sacked the best manager we've had in 20 years after just one poor season finishing 7th but qualified for CL for most of his tenure, we now have a young unproven manager who is still in the learning curve and last but not least we have owners who give limited funds for the mgr to sign players and need to sell in order to buy. This is not how a PL champion club is being run.

Great support there.

How about showing some loyalty towards a club that stuck by him.

Well atleast we agree on one thing

Just an observation, but how much in wages have we and will continue to pay him during his bans for the Evra debacle, and also the biting incident?

It must run into 7 figures.

The club should look to recoup this on top of any fee.

I have never been really gutted by football apart form the nando to chelsea thing, Luis to arsenal would be worse.

They are a no mark also ran team. Real madrid then fine but arsenal?

I was never one to overly support luis over the last few seasons with his antics, but lots and lots of people players and the club did he should atleast have the respect not to drag this thought the mud, he wants out then hand in a transfer request.

I'm thinking Suarez maybe didn't run off and celebrate in normal fashion due to it actually being 1. an own goal.  2. not his goal. It was almost an embarrassed 'oops' type celebration. Are we reading too much into it?

Come on Luis, make a statement to the fans, commit your future, head down and play.

That and the fact it was his first game back after the break, he had barely trained. There may be an element of disinterest but I suspect a large part is lack of fitness.

Has anyone ever seen Suarez so disinterested ! Regardless of fitness levels etc that shouldn't change how you celebrate a goal being scored - especially one you have a part in - everytime we have scored in the past he acts like a kid at Xmas with a beaming and going mental - regardless of fitness levels
