Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

"The Commisson did not take into account that no further action was taken against Jermain Defoe in 2006, and instead used the case of Brighton's Ashley Barnes, banned for a total of seven games for tripping up a referee, to judge the length of Suarez's ban."

So they decided not to use Dafoe's bite on another player as a precedent but instead the very similar ( ??? ) Barnes case of tripping up a referee, and still he got more games suspended. This is more embarassing for English football than the bite. The bite was childish and done in a moment of red mist. The FA's response is cynical, unjust and calculated. Their justification is laughable!

PFA chief executive Taylor earlier said: "It would be embarrassing if he is named Player of the Year.
"But we have got to deal with it and make sure he is Player of the Year not just in a footballing sense but as a human being as well and we will be trying to do that."

Well, considering his selfishness it wouldn't surprise me.

This season, we've played twice without him and won both games. I hope that their "percentage" isn't including only those two games. If they're considering all games since his arrival, then that's something else. But stats don't really show the real picture. Didn't we have stats last season that suggested that we'd be better off without Gerrard (we had more games won without him in the team)?

When Luis was banned for 8 games we won 5 of them.

The problem with such a long ban, as with the last one, is that if we get into a style of playing without him (and winning) we have to adjust when he has served his ban. Players who are doing well in the interim system then have to be dropped to make way and the play has to change to accomodate him
Its a pain in the ar'se and sets us back.
Fu'ck the FA!

The club has survived losing bigger players than Suarez and we will again if he did leave.

Its not a case of "surviving" though is it? Its about coping without him and then with him when he comes back
On a lighter note, if yesterdays result is anything to go by, your "punish our best player with a long ban" philosophy might actually help us

Whatever happens with Suarez the club will still move forwards.

We have "coped" with him on the sidelines before and we will cope again.

The club is more than just Suarez.

I wouldn't be too upset if Suarez left as long as we got good money for him. Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible player and works incredibly hard, but I have always thought he doesn't fit into a pass and move, possession-based side very well. When he's in the side, the result of the game almost completely depends up Suarez' form. Can any of you remember a time where we won, but Suarez had an awful game?

Yes it is - just like it was more than Keegan or Tosh or Rush or Fowler or Owen or Kenny or Torres.

The club is and always will be bigger than one player including both Gerrard and Suarez.

So you are merely stating the obvious to seem intelligent?
Got it
