Wrong, what Stewart Downing adds that Tom Ince can't add is the work rate to constantly go back and defend.

I agree his work rate is very good and in a 4-4-2 that is an important feature of your wide players but in a 4-3-3 other qualities that Downing doesn’t possess are more important.

Work rate ?

Yeah , just run around and look busy and some people will think you're actually making a big contribution.

Is it just me who thinks that when it comes to the crunch Downing time and again backs off or slows down in the last two yards ?

I can't believe Downing is being critisized

Last season I could understand it but this year the guy us actually out there doing the business for us consistently week in week out.

He is playing well - it's not a crime to suggest that.

I don't think anyone has said it's a crime to suggest he's been playing well, most people even his harshest critics have acknowledged that his performance has improved although with the caveat that he couldn't have got much worse.

Few people really care what you believe Benny .

Yes there is always a caveat - and people call me negative !

And I guess people care about what i believe as much as they care about what you believe.

His work rate is good. It’s his tenacity, aggressive and intelligence which is lacking and what you seem to be pointing out. It’s just not part of his footballing personality. He does seem to be mentally feeble. Not top 6 material.

Its what he offers us (or doesnt) rather than what he does in games for me
He is more than willing to get the ball and give short returns and he will happily do just enough so people cant say hes sh'it. But he doesnt offer us consistent threatening play and gut busting attacking runs with killer crosses and accurate shots.
He is comfortable coasting through games rather than making his mark

Because he is performing this season to a decent standard. I can understand the flak he got last season but its slightly different this season - he is actually having a positive effect

Because in a side which lacks consistency in the last few months he has been conisistent. He scored back to back goals in the Wigan and Spurs game and also is a very hardworker this year.

And that makes him above criticism?
You two must be easily pleased then

If the lad is playing well why would you criticise him?
