He does just enough to convince people like your good selves that he is not as sh'ite as he actually is.
He is an imposter, a snake in the grass and the sooner he leaves the better. He makes sure he is seen to be doing something rather than actually doing something. Yes he has played well in a few games but he was cack against Oldham where he struggled against strong, passionate, lower league players and he was useless against Arsenal with their quick precision play and attacking options. He has got no heart whatsoever and cannot be counted on for putting himself on the line or puttin the team before himself. I am still fuming that the cheeky cu'nt had the audacity to shush the Kop after scoring one goal!
This action said everything about the type of gobsh'ite he is

I am not sure I agree. He seems to be playing with a more committed attitude and it has made a difference in his play which i think has improved. He has become a lot more solid, not shiney just solid.

I disagree kazza. At the moment he's the only player that doesn't deserve to start. He only seems better because the team as a whole is playing better. Unfortunately, we have no one else to play instead of him, so he will have to do at least until the end of the season (I have no faith that Coutinho will be better than him).

I missed the game however my colleagues are saying Downing was complete cr@p again.

Hopefully this Coutinho lad will take his place.

I'll rephrase as well
He did the bare minimum (again) to justify his place but that is nowhere near as good as he should and can be.

Thommo ffs stop beating around the bush and say what you mean

I wanted to see Downing removed from the club along with Henderson at the end of last season. They were both pitiful  and certainly contributed towards Kenny being sacked. Rodgers was prepared to let Henderson go to Fulham when we were interested in Demsey which was an indication of his confidence in the lad at that time. Downing was told politely in December that if he wasn't prepared to fight for his place he could fk off. Both players and more so Henderson who I'm beginning to actually like have improved almost beyond recognition. Against City they both made impressive contributions and that is the first time I have actually seen Downing put in a decent performance against a top team. I have always said that he performs well against the dregs of the Premiership or Championship teams. I'm not totally convinced about either of them but lets just say that I have removed the bullets from the gun, metaphorically speaking, for the time being

No matter if he is played on the left or the right, eventually he reverts to running up and down in straight lines and offering very little threat. A truly average player who judging by some if his comments is quite happy to coast through his career.

I actually agree with thommo on downing's performance against city. For someone who has above average natural talent, he doesn't take any chance at all. He has yet to grow a set of balls. At times his playing style is quite good to look at. He runs with the ball only when there are acres of space around him. And then he crosses decently... but to know one in particular. There is no intent at all. And he often avoids physical contest with opposition players. Henderson on the other hand didn't have a smooth game. But he was throwing himself about, winning possession and defending from the front. It gave gerrard suarez and sturridge freedom to attack. Henderson gave a more fruitful contribution to the team. Downing wasn't useless but he was a non-factor...
