which leads to the question on why we where even looking at him then.
surely we can do better than this

Hmm did you say that when we signed Hyppia![]()
I personally think it was a good move from him, Molde to Liverpool is to big a jump and he would have had a hell of a job gettng out of the reserves whilst at Southampton he will get game time, learn the league and ina few years go to one of the big teams, makes good good sense.

If he is willing to take a 50-75% pay cut on his reported £200,000 a week salary then it would be an interesting gamble at 8 million. Buying players who are on a steady decline is a risk as we found out with Cole and Chelsea found out with Torres. If we gave him a big contract and he continues his decline we would probably be lumbered with him like we were with Cole and Aquilani and end up buying out his contract.
If he could halt his decline and find some consistent form he would instantly add another dimension to our play in the number 10 role. He really is tailor made for the number 10 in the 4-3-3 that Rodgers wants to play.
Worth a cheeky offer of £70,000 a week and a 2 and half year contract with the option of another.
I think we'd have to go to wages similar to Gerrard's.

If he wants that sort of money he isn’t worth the risk. Spurs have a stricter wage budget than us so they won’t get him. There are only a handful of clubs in England that could afford to pay him £100,000+. Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and us.

It does seem like he doesn't want to sign for gala though so it could be an interesting transfer window
