It's a shame we couldn't get him, £2-3 million is a steal, I still think he is a very good player, certainly a good squad player.

He is, however, 31 years of age, earning big wages and a Manc so that completely rules him out.

This youngster from Leverkusen sounds an interesting one, though, not least as it looks as though we may have stolen another of Arsenal's targets and we know all about Wenger's abaility to spot a youngster. It could also underline the continuing benefit of having ex-LFC players in high positions. If Alonso helped swing the Sahin deal our way, maybe Sami can have a similar influence on Yesil. Granted, any deal will depend on a number of factors, but the player's feeling of whether the club is the right fit has to be a part of that and that's where a favourable recommendation comes into play.

Is that confirmed ? I thought he was looking for a move to Italy (Fiorentina)

"ACF Fiorentina announces that it missed the acquisition of the player Dimitar Berbatov after we had reached an agreement with Manchester United and a verbal understanding with the player on a contract.

"During today the English club had granted him written permission to travel to Florence for a medical and to sign a contract. The player - accompanied by his agent - embarked on a flight to Florence with tickets paid for by the club.

"But the player never arrived in Florence because of reckless and arrogant actions of other clubs which have nothing to do with the values of honesty, fair play and sporting ethics which lie beyond the boundaries of loyalty.

"As for the player, notwithstanding his characteristics and technical merit, at this point we are happy that he did not come to Fiorentina as he is not worthy of our city, our shirt and the values it represents."

Huntelaar. But isn't his contract expiring in a year? Don't think his fee would be high, probably below 16m.

Doubt so mate. Sure Liverpool are a bigger attraction to Shalke but unlike us, they are in the ECL.
Plus he's 29 so not sure if FSG would sanction such a deal for a player his age.

A lot of it seems to be paper talk as Carroll has now left on loan, it being the last day of the transfer window and the journalists needing something to write about. But seeing the way we've been conducting business lately, with everything behind closed doors and transfers happening under the rader (Assaidi and Yesil), don't be surprised if it's a name whom no one expected.

Or it could be Fernando Llorente who has a 30m buy-out clause.

The only striker out their that would make a difference is the incredible Hulk ,but we can't afford him.

it will be dempsey, we`ve been linked with him practically every window since fsg took over the club.
on a night where we struggled to break down a mid table scottish team and we had jordan henderson in the front 3 i hope to god we dont send andy carroll on loan and just bring in clint dempsey, i hope we sign a proper striker, a huntelaar or someone like that.
