Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

That's very encouraging to hear for me. The lad can certainly play and if he was being pushed out always, he has a right to let us Liverpool fans know which he has done. He's better than sigurdsson and cando that same job better than that kid. If Rodgers needed a sigurdsson like player before, well he'll definitely be needing aquilani's services now

i agree, give him some games and let him prove himself, if he's Sh*t he's Sh*t but if he's as good as I suspect he might be, it could be very interesting.

You really really think he was dragged kicking to Italy?

The guy is a Sh*t house. One day hes calling Roma "his club" the next he is saying it was never his doing he was loaned out. ROy and Kenny forced him out.

I wonder what he will say next week.

Maybe he'll say "Yeah I was really happy with that hattrick I scored today" :-) Seriously give him a chance I do think he's been messed about by the last 3 managers so lets see what he's got before we jump down his throat. From what i see he looks like a damned good midfielder with good vision and technique.
Also remember that he really does have a point to prove and if he wants that move to italy he'll after working his ***** off for us.

i dont see whats wrong with him saying roma is his club, they are his hometown club, they are the team he grew up supporting, he went through their youth set up and learnt his trade there, then he broke into their first team and played a lot of games for them.
if he said any other club was `his` club he`d obviously be lying. i rather he said roma is his club than be some phoney badge kisser
aquilani is a quality footballer, he`s operated at a far higher level than this signurdsson who people wanted us to sign, and you make out like he`s one of these players who is moaning in the press every five minutes, this is the first time he`s even mentioned that it wasnt his decision to be shipped out on loan.
considering the stick he`s taken from some quarters he`s done well to hold his tongue this long.
all`s i know is that whenever he has had a little run of games in our team suddenly the standard of our play goes up a few notches, he is a classy player, infact in the 70`s and 80`s those aquilani type players who seem to effortlessly glide over the pitch and are great at playing in triangles were described as `liverpool players`.
he would be a nailed on starter in my first XI.

We should have listened to this guy 3 years ago

Goal.com Italy Slams Liverpool Target Aquilani As 'The New Dossena'
The speculated transfer of Aquilani to Liverpool would not be a good move for the Reds, opines Sergio Stanco from Goal.com Italy.

Aug 5, 2009 8:30:59 PM

Xabi Alonso's potential move to Real Madrid could pave the way for AS Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani to join Rafael Benitez's Liverpool ranks, but Goal.com Italy's Sergio Stanco has warned Anfield fans that they could be chasing "another Andrea Dossena".

Stanco has reservations about the Liverpool target, as he feels that it is high time that the 25-year-old has converted his much-publicised potential into top-level performances.

He told Goal.com International, "In Italy, we said that Aquilani has a great potential and each year should be the one where he explodes, but we are still waiting."

He was swift to add, though, that, "No one is so stupid to say that he can not become a great player, but at the moment he still is not."

Stanco also pointed to the differences in England and Italy about fielding young players. A case in point is the way players such as Wayne Rooney and now more recently Jack Wilshere are brought through into the first-team at 16 or 17-years-of-age, while in Serie A, players such as Sebastian Giovinco and Riccardo Montolivo are still considered young.

The reason for this, Stanco suggests, is to alleviate the risk of "burn-out", so while there is still time for Aquilani to raise his game further, which Stanco hopes as "everybody knows how Italy needs
a good midfielder", but the onus has instead turned to the nation's younger crop.

Goal.com Italy had further criticisms about an Aquilani switch. "He does not have the personality to conquest the Premier League. I think he will be a new Dossena who wants to come back to Italy after one year because he doesn't enough."

I noticed it on Rawk and just thought it was pretty spooky how close to the mark the guy was - he had it pretty much spot on.

He didnt need to moan to the press, IMO he will be out the door as soon as someone from Italy comes in for him.

He has had a habbit of spouting the " i want to play for liverpool" every season. Then 4 weeks later hes off now with his talent Roy or Kenny must have thought about having him around? Unless they are so blinkered they missed what some of you are saying.

he needed to go to the press to clarify his position mate, many fans were accusing him of wanting to bale out at any given opportunity but he was saying he wanted to play for liverpool but dalglish and hodgson didnt want him.
in a way i could understand kenny`s logic, he thought those frustrating losses away against the lesser lights of the division were down to us getting bullied out of games and were down to our players not being up for a battle, most of those results were against teams we were far better than on paper so kenny assumed it was a question of attitude and thought the best way to address that was bring in british players, the best way to address the problem wasnt to bring british players into the side but better players into the side, like the one already at the club - aquilani.
regarding roy and his reasons for loaning out aquilani he just didnt know his @rse from his elbow, especially if he thought poulsen was better than him.
kenny loaning out aquilani probably cost him his job, with long term injuries to lucas and gerrard kenny was forced to play the likes of spearing and hendo week in week out in the engine room and they werent ready for such a big job.
aquilani is a top player, i hope he stays because i know if he stays he will force his way into the starting XI.
