thats euro`s not quid mate, 11m euro`s is probably about £9m quid.
saying that it`s still a fair amount for someone who`s 30 before the season ends.

Yea I know, that's why I said 11 and not £11 million.  I still can't find the Euro symbol on my computer  :rasp

I liked when that £6 million figure was being tossed around.

Dempsey would be a political buy to gain sponsers in the US (spend 10 million get 50 million in sponsership), hopefully he wouldn't be expected to play. Maybe its linked to a US strategy vis-a-vis a stadium naming rights deal etc..

Who knows, who cares, we clearly don't have the wanger to bring in any decent players.

We aren't just looking at Dempsey because he's American.  FSG came in with a strategy, and if their strategy was to immediately go after the Americans market, and to help do so purchase a popular American player, they would have done much sooner than now.  In fact, Dempsey isn't even the most popular American.  A lot of people have mixed feelings about him (although many, myself include, have warmed up to him recently).  If it was all about fans we probably would have gone after a player like Donovan, or when Freidel became a free agent we would have been in for him as well, because he is quite liked in America.  Michael Bradley is a decent player who's just signed for Roma, and is liked by many Americans as well, and he could be cover for Lucas.

The main reason we're going after Dempsey is because he scored 23 goals in 46 games or Fulham last season.  United went in for Kagawa because he's a fantastic player.  The fact he will help them sell shirts in Japan is a bonus, and a bonus they considered before purchasing him nonetheless, but not the main reason he was purchased.

I think we need to show a bit more respect for these players than we have been.

We've been linked a lot with Dries Mertens from PSV and Theo Walcott. I'd love to see Walcott play for us but why would he leave Arsenal and play for us? I mean, I know he's a Liverpool fan but still it doesn't make much sense.

arsenal have got oxlade chamberlain now, wouldnt surprise me if walcott was surpluss to requirements.
at one point last season walcott was getting booed and jeered by the arsenal fans, i dont think him leaving arsenal is as big a deal as we think it is.

duncan jenkins (one of the more geniune and believable people on twitter) says that we're trying to conclude a deal for joe allen.

Would be really happy with that. We need someone to bring the ball from the midfield to the final third instead of hollywood passing ala Adam.

Lucas and Allen should be able to work well together!
