Anfield - A fortress?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Well so far this season we are undefeated at Anfield, and have put in some fantastic performances at home particularly in the Champions League gainst Monaco and even Deportivo although we didn't get 3 points in that much.

Last season our form at home in the league was a large reason why we only finished with 60 points. We only picked up 1 point at home against the top 4 clubs (ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and the Geordies) .

In days gone by Anfield has been a fortress, and in our title winning days our form at Anfield was brilliant, I believe we went something like 85 games undefeated at Anfield between 1978 and 1981.

With Rafa at the helm this season, and new signings like Garcia and Alonso confidence is high among fans and perhaps Anfield is going to become the fortress it used to be.

If we can keep winning most of our games at Anfield and be more consistent away from home, this season could be very exciting indeed.

What do you all think??

A bit premature, but a nice thought. I think it is now 15 league games undefeated at Anfield and 100% this season. Progress indeed.

sure is Leon, perhaps one could argue we are yet to be tested at home, but we have looked confident at Anfield this season and let's hope it continues.

we haven't played anyone at home yet but i have to admit that the signs are certainly looking more encouraging at anfield this season.

under houllier, the personnel we had, especially owen, made us a better away team than we were at home. this was due to our deep defensive line and quick counter-attacking style. our problems came when teams came to anfield and put 10 behind the ball. we lacked the nous to break them down.

we have birmingham and palace at home next. both easily winnable, and then it's arsenal. ask me after that game if anfield is becoming a fortress again.

we outplayed Arsenal at Anfield last season and should have won the game. I think we can beat Arsenal on our day particularly in a full house at Anfield.

Speaking of home games, I think Kirkland had to make one save against Charlton and one against Norwich. Rather than waste an extra slot, why not let him push up front with Cisse and baros, he's a big lad, could get a few knock downs. Or maybe we could just drop him and give flo a run out? Seems a waste to play the big man, when you couyld have another forward on, what do you think?

I think with his size, he'd be the ideal battering ram for both Baros and Cisse. Mind you, if Chris headed the ball he'd probably fracture his skull or pull a muscle in his neck. :D
