Man of the match in the league cup final, winning goal in the fa cup quarters, he is now making contributions in big games. The belief he will garner from this will hopefully make him produce more moments of quality. He has the talent, its a question of him believing it. The attack is still lacking as we are still reliant on Suarez and Gerrard, but two quality additions, from Spain, and we would be a much more dangerous proposition next year.

Why must they be from Spain? Why not Germany or France for instance? What's the obsession with Spanish talent?

Not necessarily from Spain, however the Spanish league is the best in the world and there are a large number of players in la liga who would walk into our side and make us infinitely better.

Athletic Bilbao have better players than us for example.

Bilbao players would cost a fortune, Bilbao aren't keen on selling their players.

I think there's numerous talent all over the world that we can sign, I bet there's a plethora of talented players in places like South America that we could pick. Don't get this obsession with Spanish footballers, they're good footballers, but the top three players in the world aren't Spanish, Messi, Ronaldo and Robben.

it was a good goal from downing but he still needs to be a bit more aggressive for me, he`s a bit `after you claude` whenever the ball is loose between him and an opposition player.
he`s got a fair bit of ability though and he`s quicker than he looks so hopefully he`ll gain some confidence from his MoM performance in the league cup final and his winner today.

World Cup holders - Spain
European Championship holders - Spain
#1 FIFA Rankings - Spain
Champions League holders - Barca (Spain)

Athletic Bilbao, a team of Basque players, played the team that tops our league off the pitch home and away, and possess Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente.

I'd say there are pretty good reasons for the obsession with Spanish players.

Fifa's World Rankings aren't important and Barcelona wouldn't be half the side they are without that little Argentinian, Lionel Messi. Barcelona's tactic is pass the ball around, pick out Messi and watch him single handedly destroy the opposition.

His might keep his temperature up so he doesnt get frosty, and even sicker. Good Luck!

Yea, he's done much better in recent times. That said, and despite his improvement, his contribution is still not enough if we have top4 aspirations.

anyway on downing,is he really improving? or is it that he just has a good game every once in a while?
he has lightning speed and finds himself in some fantastic positions but im not so sure he has the brain to capitalise.
he needs to grow a pair or else the club should invest in a prosthetic set for the lad because he could make all the difference in games.

Mediocre player who is worth no where near the amount we paid for him. Maybe will have a few decent games here and there but otherwise completely average. Can't see him improving and personally would look to get rid of him in the summer and bring in a replacement

If Liverpool  dispense with this ridiculous notion he is best suited to the right wing ,and play him regularly on the left then maybe
we will see the best of Downing  .
