I'm no fan of Andy's style but we bought him and he should be used properly and given some decent service. I know his shortcomings and he has got to work on them. In the second half when Kenny changed things Andy made a serious contribution which ultimately lead to us winning the game.We made heavy weather of beating a very average United team and frankly we owe Andy and Dirk a debt of gratitude. WELL DONE ANDY! Just keep it up.
Agree with all of this.
It was irrelevant who we had upfront for the first hour as we didn't get a kick in midfield. Kenny playing Carragher as a holding midfielder was strange to say the least, the first hour was a write off. We had 38% possession at Anfield. Once Adam came on we got a bit of a foothold in midfield, and hey presto we see the forwards who finally got some service.
Carroll didnt do anything different against Man U than any of his previous games.. the difference was other people who provided more direct ball that he is suited to (we became Newcastle for 25 minutes). If Pepe doesnt launch that ball downfield which he flicked on, if Downing doesnt swing in the cross he hammers against the bar.. Carroll has the same game as previous. If Carroll has a quiet game its not because hes playing c'rap, its because hes not being used in the direct manner that suits him. Hes a player 100% totally reliant on direct service. This is the player Kenny signed, you cant change him, which is why Kennys comment; "no direspect to Newcastle but they played a different way to us", is all the more baffling. Why buy a player who thrived in a style that you openly state we dont play?
