He's been awful. And to think some were actually trying to convince others that he would be a 'better fit' than Mata as 'he knows how to cross'. :O He has surely got to be a bigger waste of money than Aquilani? At least Aqua actually contributed with the odd assist or goal. Downing goes missing in most games.

So after half a season he is written off already !!!

You get more reactionary as each day goes by Bav, used to think you had a bit more about you.

The fanbase of our club gets worse each day with the demand for instant results and success.

Go and watch some of his highlights and see how many chances he creates that have been missed by our strikers !!  Last time I looked I count 8 !! Plus the 2 occasions he has smashed the ball himself .

Look at the bigger picture

benny, while you are so busy staring patiently at the bigger picture the rest of us are looking at the crucial present and noticing that certain 20 million  pound players are contributing the square root of feck all.

People are annoyed and rightfully so that we have spent £20 mil on a player who has produced nothing and is showing no signs of improvement. He's wasn't an unknown quanitity either, he has been an average premiership peformer for years. Combined to that fact we have another £35Mil and a £16mil pair of duds then people get seriously annoyed. One expensive bad signing is fair enough, but 3 huge failures in the space of 6 months is ridiculous.

If he was a kid who we bought for the future then fair enough id cut him some slack. But for 20mil he was supposed to come in and do a job now and he isn't. As a concequence Carroll can't do what he does best. Not laying all the blame at Downings feet but for someone who is known for going past people and crossing he seems to have forgotten how to play.

So we are writing them all off as failures already then !!

Great work , let's go and buy some more players -

How long do you give them then ?

6 months and if they haven't reached your expectations then what ? Sell them again and give another new bunch 6 months ?

Do you get the picture I'm painting here ? We need to give these players more time .

The fact people are calling a 20 year old a failure after 6 months is laughable !!

Yes we want more from the players , we need to give the players the time to give us more .

when you cost £35mil, £20mil and £16mil you dont get the luxury of time, its as simple as that, they cost that much money becasue there expected to peform now. Younger players with modest prices get time to sit on the bench and grow into the team, when you cost over £15mil that means your bought to be a first team regular now

In the 2003/2004 Season, Arsenal finished the league season unbeaten

In the 2011/2012 Season, this man aims to finish the league season with no goals and no assists

This man is Stewart Downing

Bav go and watch the vid and see how many crosses he has put in but have either been missed by a striker or we have had no one in the box !

Take the game against Bolton - Downing went down the left past his marker and played a great cut back to Carroll who missed . He has also been played a lot on the right .

It's not as easy as jus saying he hasn't put the crosses in.

Enrique has produced more quality chances than Downing and hes the left back for god sake

Utter rubbish - once the player arrives at the club the price tags is irrelevant - they are all part of the squad and all have the same demands. The price tag is what was needed to be the player to the club is doesn't justify someone demanding instant results or using the price tag to critisze them.

The players don't choose the price.

Thank christ this is a minority representation of the fanbase
