I hope he remembers how to cross sooner rather than later. Just swinging his left peg ain't good enough. He needs to aim it too.

England and Liverpool star Stewart Downing will not face charges after he was arrested last month on suspicion of assault, police said.

The 27-year-old winger was held for questioning following an alleged incident at the Cross Keys pub in Yarm, Teesside, at around 1am on January 8.

A 32-year-old woman also arrested at the time on suspicion of assault remains on police bail.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "A 27-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault following an alleged incident at a pub on Yarm High Street has been released without charge.

He was playing better under threat of police charges..............hope he doesn't fall back into his shell again now :D

Sorry but we did not get it right with this signing. This is no knee jerk because he hasn't lived up to the expectation to play for this club. He wasn't good enough today or the games he played in. I'm sure he is a decent player but he isn't good enough for this club

Just hope he kicks on from this now, starting at the weekend. The likelihood is he'll be up against somebody playing out of position at right back. Smalling or even Valencia might be playing there and Downing can get some joy.

Agreed.  He had one of his best games for sure.

He tends to play better against the bigger teams though, when they try and attack us and he can use his pace on the counter and run in behind them.

His problem is playing against teams we are expected to beat, especially at Anfield, where there is little opportunity to run in behind.  He doesn't have any tricks really, but has a decent touch and can run.

He is a useful player to have, but not all games suit him and I'm still not convinced he's worth a regular start.

Nah...

Was so excited about this signing after watching him play at Boro and Villa but at this stage it is safe to say he is a total failure. He is probably that kind of player that can only succeed in a small team. He is a mental midget which is a shame considering his potential skills.

really thought he was gonna be a good signing, but he is absolute rubbish. even Riera was more effective on the left side

I seriously cant remember him getting a single touch today. That is mind boggling.

Does anyone know how to check Opta stats?

Never ever seen such an ineffective winger in all my life. When we bought him I youtubed his performances for Villa last season and thought 'What a player we've got'. Never seen as big as a let down than that. Loan him out 'til the end of the season and get then rid. :censored:' shocking

ask Dundalk :D he will upload a new photo soon surely.

anyway we won't go far with a midfield like Spearing, Downing, Adam and Henderson. we should consider ourselves lucky to even qualify for the Europa League.

and someone ought to give Kenny a course on handling the press. he is starting to lose it.

Before he was taken off he picked up the ball on the left wing, stopped, turned around, ran a few paces back towards our half, then spun 180 deg and faced the Man Utd goal again....................then played a sideways pass

I was baffled, truely truely baffling play.
