This is on Granero's wikipedia page right now!  Is someone jumping the gun?

"Granero's situation became worse in the 2010–11 season, with even Fábio Coentrão - another compatriot of manager José Mourinho  who was signed in the off-season, originally as a left wingback - being preferred over him as central midfielder. esteban granero joins liverpool in a 7.8 million pound deal on 16th january 2012."

Not only he's not good enough, but I also wonder why are we after him. He's not the type of player we need. He's more of an attacking midfielder and we have plenty of those.

Well Henderson, Adam, Shelvey, Gerrad they're all meant to be more attacking midfielders while we don't have any defensive midfielders at the moment (we had two and they're both injured). You are right though, these players rarely get in the opponent's box, but I think I'd rather give Shelvey a chance than spend money on Granero.

So shall we not bother with looking at Hazard then ?

I like the look of David Texeria (spelling). He seems to be all-rounded and the way he play looks somewhat like Torres. Don't really like the look of sow... Reminds me too much about Cisse with even less speed... Of course I know very little about both of them bug if I had to choose, I'd choose the Uruguayan as Uruguayan footballer's talents these days are surprisingly high...

How about we sign Granero AND give Shelvey more chances. I'm sure we can accomadate both. In any case we are lacking some serious quality going forward. We have essentially gone from Torres and Gerrard being our only threat to Suarez and Gerrard.

When you look at recent dealings in the transfer market I think it tells a story of where we stand today. Some examples of players leaving:

Torres and Raul to Chelsea
Alonso to R Madrid
Mascherano to Barcelona....

Then the players coming in:

Adam from Blackpool
Hendo from Sunderland
Downing from Villa

We're a middle tier team in world football now. Due to that we need to have excellent scouts who find the gems in the lower leagues, or in the french league, or spanish league, or even the Uruquayan league. Over the last few years i'm not sure we've done that with any great success. I'm optmistic of Shelvey and Hendo. Both have good futures with us. As for Carroll, our service to him has been nearly non-existant and i'm not suprised he's lost self belief. At this point i'd say i'm 50/50 as to wether Carroll is ever going to fit in now. He's actually a good footballer. I've seen him play for the Toon. You don't lose talent so quickly. His problems are all upstairs in his head.

As such, I find it hard to get excited about players i've only peripherally heard of.

Our scouts used to be the best in the world. Jan Molby and Brucie Grobbs are just two names that spring to mind of players who'd never been heard of.

Ahhh, those were the days....

For players coming in, you left out our 3 most successful signings of 2011.  Suarez, Bellamy and Enrique.

In my opinion, Lucas has pretty much replaced Mascherano although they're not like for like players.  We're also stronger at LB than we have been for years with Enrique.

We still haven't really replaced Alonso or Torres.  And thats why the general mood around here is that we need to sign a striker and a decent CM.

True, yes, but actually my point was about who we deal with, though I didn't express that very well. We're selling to the likes of Real and buying from the likes of Blackpool. I know that dosen't bear much significance, yet maybe it does when you consider the quality of our team today to what it was under Rafa. Playerwise I mean.

to be fair we where in a better position after a year of Rafa's being here as we had just won the Champions league and looked nailed on to get in the top 4.  That did enable us to attract top players.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I don't think Henderson himself knows what his best position is if I'm honest. He's caught between two stools. If he plays in a three for example he's not going to be the holder and he's mnot going to be the most advanced of the three. He's the one in the middle who merely keeps play ticking along. Adam does like to get forward but I still wouldn't class him as an "attacking midfielder". He's more of a conventional playmaker. He's not going to be arriving late in the box like a Lampard for example.

Shelvey I trhink has potential as he's the one who's not afraid to get in the box when he plays. He played off the main striker when he was on loan at Blackpool and scored a lot of goals from there.
