Yes Roy worked that one out quick enough on deadline day its not asif he hasnt watched lucas for a few years and been at the club since June.

I am no Lucas fan and Ive never hid the fact but to bomb him and Babel out on deadline day only for them to remain at the club is pretty shabby treatment from the manager and the club.

We now have two very unhappy players unwanted players on our hand, nice one LFC.

That shows exactly what you know about Meireles, ziltch, nada, zero. In future please either know something about the player in question or don't even engage in any sort of discussion.

He can't be that bad a player Rocky. Jose Mourinho signed tha lad for FC Porto, and he even tried to take him to Inter only for the deal to collapse due to Quaresma backing out of returning to FC Porto.

excuse me ive watched both players numerous times over the years. And aqua offers alot more than miereles does in my opinion. And just because maureen rates him what does that mean. Rafa rated lucas does that make him a great player.

Aquilani certainly had some ability, but his influence upon games was minimal for much of their passage. I know someone will quote me his "assists against relegated teams" stats, but I don't need those to tell me a player doesn't cut it.

We essentially had to carry Aquilani for the whole match in the hope he might cross it at some point and someone might score from it. There's assists and there's assists, and we didn't see much of the game breaking pass from Aquilani which split a defence wide open and put the striker in one on one. We didn't see mazy dribbles where three defenders were committed before the ball was slipped off to a waiting predator. And we didn't see the fabled long shooting, either to score goals or to cause goals to be scored. What we basically got was a player who probably spent the least amount of time in possession of the football of ay Liverpool player I can remember. Each time he got it you would have thought the ball was an unexploded bomb, or the defenders were suicide bombers so keen was he to offload it to the nearest and easiest red shirt.

So the Portuguese lad has got to contribute much much more than that. My guess is that he'll get up and down, and I also have a feeling that he will play alongside Poulsen with Gerrard ahead of them when we play our best team. I am unconvinced by either Cole in the hole or by Jovanovic anywhere (I think he's a poor player TBH based on what we've seen so far) and have a feeling as the season progresses we'll see Cole employed left side. Hopefully Moriaeles can provide the link between our back five (with Poulsen) and our front two. It was too easy to cut our best two players off when we had the axis, and I'm very confident that our new central midfielders will provide much more than our old ones did. To this end, I don't think we'll overly miss Masherano. Also, I'm encouraged by Roy trying to move Lucas out to West Ham. He worked thatone out pretty sharpish.

well done mick. You actually wrote a full post without even mentioniing stephen ireland.

Course you have watched both players many a time, course you have. :p

If you had watched both players as much as you say you have then you wouldn't be tapping your fingers on your keyboard before engaging your brain. Meireles will offer and bring more to the team that Aquilani ever did and if you have watched the aforementioned as much as you say you have you would be of the same assumption.

i dont think Roy was seriously trying to offload Lucas at all. he mentioned he would consider it if a substantial bid of around 20million came in for him. so from the "20million" comment, can it not be assumed that Roy possibly rates Lucas more then many of us here? because most of us would sell Lucas for 10million. as for Babel, he needs a wake up call anyway.

In fairness we've been trying to ship Babel out for long enough. As far as Lucas is concerned, if the fact that we've just signed Moriaeles, Poulsen and Cole doesn't tell him that perhaps the manager isn't going to play him in every single match, then he's a bigger mug than he looks. He was even saying himself the other day that he might have to consider moving, so Roy opening the door for him was neither premature nor likely to disturb his sensibilities overly.

The simple fact of the matter is that both players have been well above their station for a long time by being at Liverpool for as long as they have, neither are good enough. Babel I guess has a smidgeon of potential given he has pace and lots of ability, but Lucas is a mile short. The fact Roy isn't going to play him every match in the vain hope that one day he'll come good can only be a good thing, and says a lot about our managers player spotting abilities :buttrock .

I'm strongly hoping that Roy's :censored: both Babel and Lucas off in the Alonso way.  If they follow that model, they'll raise their game several notches this season, make telling contributions and then head for the exit door.  In Alonso's case, that departure was a massive blow.  In Lucas and Babel's case, I'd find a way to live with it. :D
