Yes but it's the system we play too, as much as I want him to stay I am not convinced he is suited to our league.

Is he also suited playing in a midfield partnership of 2? I am not sure he is, in a 4 3 3 possibly.

Agreed.. he favours a 442 but does vary it as well. I could see Aqua in there. He has more craft than any of our other midfield players (Stevie aside) He could take the league by storm

Him and Suarez in the same side could be fantastic.

If you where to include Aqua in the team what would your team be?

                  Reina
Johnson.  Carra.  Agger.  LB

Gerrard.  Aqua. Adam.  Downing

               Suarez.   Carrol

Doesn't look too good to me. KK is defo going to play Adam and Gerrard and Downing, so I just don't see where Aqua fits in.

In the team above we lack a proper defensive midfeilder, I think Lucas will play so there is no room for him
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Agreed and you also have to wonder about Miereles and Henderson too, not to mention Spearing.

We will have a bench full of midfielders. Surely a couple will be sold, you could add Shelvey to that list too not to mention the likes of Cole and Maxi also.

With Gerrard set to miss the starting month or two of the season, I think Aquilani could very well have the chance to prove himself when given opportunities until December... If it doesnt work out for him until then, or if Kenny doesnt play him despite the absence of Gerrard, then maybe we should sell him for whatever we can get for him because its obviously never going to work out if so...

Personally I think the third central midfield spot in a 4-3-3 (if we do decide to play the formation) is between him and Adam until Gerrard is back... (Assuming Meireles and Lucas are sure starters in that period)...

I still think he needs to be given an opportunity, and if I was Kenny I'd relish the chance and challenge of trying to get the best out of an obviously very talented footballer in Aquilani... Looking at other managers in the league, the likes of Redknapp, Wenger and Ferguson have all managed over the years to get talented attacking midfielders (Modric, Wilshere, Giggs) to adapt to playing a deeper role despite not being particularly good tacklers... Of course it all depends on the style of play we decide on, but I have a feeling Kenny is more about possession football that attempting to hoof it and cross it all the time to Carroll... I can see him playing Meireles, Adam/Aquilani and Kuyt ahead of Henderson, Spearing and Carroll in many games for that very reason...

I am expecting him to leave on some shyte loan deal on the 31st of August :(. It seems almost certain that we are not counting on him (and I'm not debating whether that is right or wrong) but can't seem to recoup as much of the transfer fee as hoped for. I just hope this isn't one of the reasons that we are holding back on signing one or two defenders, as we really need them in asap to start gelling with the team.

I know he's been good in every single one of our preseason matches and every other player for the most part has been utter sh!te I don't think he can handle the Prem, lets be real guys this is ONLY preseason and we've played nothing but cr@p sides that don't know how to put in a proper tackle.

I think he's worth keeping after that performance.  His passing has been spot on.  His shots were really well taken.  I think he'll do better than Spearing, SHelvey, Cole, Poulson and meireles, and for me that's enough to keep him.

I was an advocate for him going at least on loan another season but he has been far and above our best midfielder this pre-season. For me he would be the first name on the sheet against Sunderland.

Agreed, felt the same way but he had a brilliant pre-season training surely KD should give him a chance?

Maybe it's impossible to keep him?. Maybe he wants to return to Italy to be with his child that was born in April of this year?.

As Ive said many times before, he is world class and head and shoulders above spearing, shelvey, cole and poulsen and is better than miereles, maxi and probably henderson.
It will be a big mistake to let him go

If the club let Aqua go again they need to have their heads tested. He is by far and away our best player in pre-season and there is no reason why he wouldn't show the same quality in the league.

Personally, I'd consider the following line-up:

                                                                Reina

Johnson                Carragher                          Agger                LB (whomever comes in)

                        Gerrard             Aqualani                  Adam                         Downing

                                                            Suarez

                                                            Carroll

That's if Gerrard can be convinced to play on the right hand side. Obviously this would be risky against the top sides, when I'd swap Adam for Lucas to add some defensive bite, or switch Gerrard to Adam's position and play Kuyt.
Gerrard on the right and Downing on the left would be enough to scare the living daylights out of anyone, though, and that would be a very balanced side.

I have to say we're looking very light defensively - Doni aside, every player we've signed is attack-minded. Lucas was good last season but realistically he'll never be an ever-present in a title-winning side as he doesn't bring enough to the table.

As an aside, though, I'd love to know where Raul is going to feature as he was one of the few positives last term. He's another Aqua for me, really - one of our better players but not necessarily suited to the manager's style.
