He is as much a winger as Beckham was.
Your definition of a winger is too strict in my opinion.
Lennon is a winger (touchline as you put it) but his delivery is hardly special. His strength is pace.
Beckham was/is the opposite. No pace but killer crossing.
Henderson may not be a winger who hugs the touchline and beats players frequently with pace BUT his delivery is up with the best crossers.
Andy Carroll is the driver to the Henderson transfer and the Downing speculation. To get the best out of Carroll he will need reliable delivery. Kuyt can't provide it, nor can Rodriguez, etc (not what I have seen anyway).
Henderson will no doubt be asked to be that provider to Carroll.
