He is as much a winger as Beckham was.

Your definition of a winger is too strict in my opinion.

Lennon is a winger (touchline as you put it) but his delivery is hardly special. His strength is pace.

Beckham was/is the opposite. No pace but killer crossing.

Henderson may not be a winger who hugs the touchline and beats players frequently with pace BUT his delivery is up with the best crossers.

Andy Carroll is the driver to the Henderson transfer and the Downing speculation. To get the best out of Carroll he will need reliable delivery. Kuyt can't provide it, nor can Rodriguez, etc (not what I have seen anyway).

Henderson will no doubt be asked to be that provider to Carroll.

I'm not so sure about that mate, they just grabbed Phil Jones from under Kenny's nose. I don't know that much much about Henderson but i would have been happier if it was Jones we had signed today as we would have been addressing an area of need. I really hope we go after a player like Cahill, Shawcross or the older Hangeland now as opposed to Scott Dann.

Scott, we won't go for short term solutions ala Hangelaand. I would love it if we got Gary Cahill, I think he is a quality CB and at 25 experienced enough and has a lot of years left in him. However he is valued at 18m as opposed to Scott Dann at 10m. I'm not entirely convinced on Shawcross to be honest, big lad and a beast, maybe pairing him up with a top CB would get the best out of him, I still prefer Cahill over him

If Carroll is our new Aldo and Henderson our new Houghton I wonder who Kenny is lining up to be the new Barnes and Beardsley ?

Both Cahill and Shawcross are goal scoring CB's and have good defensive records (both Bolton and Stoke are tough sides to break down away from home). Just a matter of price in my opinion.

Young for Barnes?
Suarez for Beardsley?

Can't be that much of a fan to turn down a club he apparently supports?

He is a Sunderland fan - a north east lad - never a manc fan

Seems to me like we're trying to find a successor for Gerrard when the time comes and he's no longer as influential on the pitch as before. Henderson seems like he can play in the Gerrard role... I think right now... it's between him and Shelvey to take up the mantle...

Tidy footballer with a good engine I guess and time on his side being a young kid. Its a lot of money, no question about it. Its still a £20m spend because Ngog was worth something, not much, but a few million. You just hope the move will be the making of him, raise his confidence and beleif, and he will become the player Liverpool hope. End of day its up to him to repay the massive investment we have made in him by brining it home on that field for us and kicking off this summer.

He's more suited to our team than Charlie Adam. He's very much in the mould of a pass and move player.

Phil Jones was always going to the Mancs mate... Scott Dann however would be a real quality acquisition at CB .... Kirkdale Lad and Season ticket holder ...

The mancs were in for him for a while but our interested forced them to move quicker. We need to go all out for Cahill now. Hope we have Wickham wrapped up too.

Think about what you just said.  No disrespect, but if what you said makes sense, than what we just did also makes sense.

We bought Henderson in a position we may not need new reinforcements, and Henderson is more of a future prospect than a right now type player.  That's exactly what Phil Jones is, a future starter, not really one for right now.  If we need people in that position right now then we don't want to be buying players that can start there in 2 years, we need to buy a player that can start there in 2 months.

As I see it, Henderson is Gerrard's replacement.  Carra seems to have some kick in him for whatever reason, but I'm sure we will still go after a CB this year like Cahill or Dann.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to sign Phil Jones as a Carra replacement, but it looks like that ship has sailed.

I guess we'll find out in the next 18 months but i don't think we've splashed 16 mill on Henderson to wait for him to become Stevie's replacement or to sit him on the bench, he's been a premier league regular for a season and a half and i think he'll be expected to come in and contribute. I wonder if he has been bought to play on the right hand side as a few guys have suggested. Phil Jones wasn't my 1st choice at CB either, I really like Cahill but i'm not keen on Scott Dann. We've just spent a big chunk of money on a player who is essentially a centre-mid when we've just signed Lucas and Spearing to new contracts to add to Stevie and Mereilles. I don't know how big the budget will be but i'm a little nervous that we could be spending more money on a centre-mid when CB is the far bigger need.

Way to much money to spend on a player if he is not ready yet. Never seen him play... or I have but can't remember him. Wish him the best though.

Well it's a bit unfair to complain about the fee considering the mancs splashed 18-20 million each on Anderson, carrick and hargrieves a few years back and considering we demand the league title. If we want to win the league, we need to splash the cash and build a strong squad.

Btw don't flatter ourselves with 7 million valuation of ngog. If we don't think Henderson is worth 20 million, then ngog will not be worth 7 million. For all you know henderson is worth 13 and ngog nothing. Get it? :rasp

Yeah true. I'll reserve any further judgement until I have seen him play for a good 5-10 games.

I love underdags so none will be happier then me if he becomes a success .

Still find it weird that we are splashing insane amounts on "homegrown" talents like Carroll and Hendersson. I'd rather play it safe with the homegrowns because they are so expensive.
