I'd get hangeland if we're going for a CB, he shouldn't be as pricey and will just as good a job I reckon. A top quality left back wouldnt go amiss but I guess Warnock can plug the hole til the end of the season - depending on how he gets on of course

Ajax are holding out 21m quid for Suarez, we don't want to go more than the 17m mark

I dont think we get rid of Konchesky as he has already played for 2 clubs this season?

yep. personally i'd love to see him play on the left in a 4-3-3 as he did for uruguay in the world cup.

in an ideal world just imagine this front six if we somehow managed to persuade aquilani to come back (not that i think it will happen).

surely we have to at least look at this formation from now on? all the top teams play it and it gets the best out of the players we have.

p.s. i don't think that suarez is a replacement for torres. i think torres will see this as a serious signal of intent.

LIVERPOOL’S efforts to land Ajax striker Luis Suarez were pressing ahead today as uncertainty over the position of Ryan Babel continues.

The Reds are keen to acquire the services of the Urug-uayan during this month’s transfer window to give much-needed support to Fernando Torres.

Owner John Henry dined with the player’s agent earlier this week at a London restaurant to try and thrash out a deal.

Suarez, who scored three goals in last summer’s World Cup which helped propel the South Americans to the semi-final, is keen to come to Anfield to link up with the Spanish stars in the Liverpool dressing room.

Ajax have slapped a eye-opening £27m valu-ation on their forward, but a fee of £15m could persuade them to do business.

Winger Ryan Babel could yet be a significant factor in any Suarez transaction after he told a Dutch newspaper of his desire to return to the Eredivisie.

The 24-year-old is known to favour a move, potentially even a loan arrangement, back to Ajax, the club he left for Liverpool in 2007 for a fee in excess of £10m.
Babel looked set to be on his way to German side Hoffenheim earlier this week after Liverpool agreed a £5.8m fee with the Bundesliga club.

But with personal terms still to be agreed, and the winger’s overriding wish to go back to Holland, that transaction could yet stall.

Publicly, Liverpool are giving little away about their pursuit of Suarez, and Ajax manager Frank de Boer has said only an ‘absurd’ offer would see the striker head to Merseyside.

A game of brinkmanship is now underway and Babel will hope he becomes a make weight in a deal between his employers and the Dutch side.

The Reds’ scouting team have watched Suarez repeatedly and they think he could be the perfect foil for a frustrated Torres.

Liverpool have been quiet so far in this month’s transfer window, but Fenway Sports Group are understood to be keen to give new manager Dalglish some financial backing before the deadline.

Tottenham are also thought to be keen on Suarez, but Liverpool appears to be his most likely destination after John Henry reportedly met with the player’s agent over dinner – Pere Guardiola – earlier this week.

I hope Nesv are prepared to go that extra yard in the case of Suarez , it could be the difference between settling for a position of relative safety in the table , or seriously pushing for a Europa cup place .....

thats the system i have been advocating us playing for ages, totally agree it looks really exciting.

Yes but can we replace Kuyt with someone, surely there must be someone at the club with more vision and ball control, perhaps young Pachecho or even Wash.

As I've said a couple of times in this thread (or was it the other one about the january window... nevermind :upside:

) I really can't see us getting Coentrao unfortunately. There aren't many great young LB's out there and almost every big club would be after him (Real have been linked for example), which would not only drive up the price but also leave us hanging due to us not being able to offer him CL footie. Would be an amazing signing though I reckon. Fingers crossed the Suarez-signing goes through though as we need to signal our intent.

I actually quite like Dempsey and he has good goal scoring record in the EPL. I know he is not the super star we all want but he would do a job and would be a useful addition to the squad. Better than Konchesky anyway...!

Yep Dempsey is an interesting player also like his goal scoring capabilities...Probably considered a light weight for Liverpool (although we are packed with under weight)...

Gotta say it just makes me sick of how much money we lost/losing on players due to appalling scouting skills..Be It Babel/Keane/Aqua/Riera/Koncheski/Aureillio/Dossena...How much money we bleed becasue of irresponisble money managers and lousy scouters...Fck this is terrible.

He may have temperament issues but I think his quality has to be considered an overriding factor in our case. We are crying out for another quality forward and Suarez fits the mould. Really hope this goes through.

Reading on twitter that the deal has hit yeh ropes.
