I don't post at all on RAWK but it has had a thread dedicated to this transfer and its been filled with a ton of stuff.. from what I've read the whole transfer has been on and off a lot.  Apparently our initial 17m was agreed upon (might have been with babel, or not) but they have tried to drive the price up so we offered Babel (may have been in the intial bid, don't know) but they didn't agree with our evaluation of Babel's price.  They've wanted Babel all along but they felt we needed to add more money on top of Babel so we said F off and agreed to a bid from Hoffenheim (which was closer to our evaluation of him) to make them think that we weren't going to pay over the odds/were ready to move on OR we were going to use the money from Babel to increase the bid for Suarez.  Remember they wanted Babel all along though so either way they had to rethink the initial bid of 17m + Babel.  Leaves Hoffenheim a bit :censored: to be fair but just a bid of good transfer business from us to get closer to the price we initially offered.

Anyway, dunno if that makes sense but that is what I believe has happened.

IF this is roughly what happened I gotta say it's great to see that from us, and I'm really going to look forward to the summer.  Also on a side note there was a rumour that we're still looking at a few more aquisitions in this January window too, but like Werner said earlier we don't want to pay more than what we believe is a good price.  He mentioned something about the market being crazy and thinking something is happening then it completely changes on you.. may have been talking about this deal.

Previously when we have signed players and been directed to You tube you get maybe half a dozen moments but his clip is packed with close in goals, poachers goals, team goals, volleys, free kicks, individual, chip ins.

The only reservation is that he is very temperamental and has his fair share of controversy. At a time in the clubs history when we need stability and resolve I'm just not sure Suarez will give us that. I suppose if we are doing well then he will be brilliant but what happens when we struggle ?

The real deal Dags ...I do get what your saying ,but if a player the calibre of Torres struggles in a team devoid of any confidence ,then it surely shouldn't  reflect on his  undoubted  overall ability to be a top striker when surrounded with players of similar talent .....the same should be said of Suarez who is already more equipped to cope than Torres with his sublime first touch, and from what I have seen a  confidence issue  is something that won't plague Suarez     ..... I honestly believe this would signify to the football world that Nesv have arrived and they intend putting the Reds back where they belong .....

Hi Red Beergoggles,

I trust your judgement mate and like myself I know you want the very best for LFC.

I am not trying to be a damp squib here. Maybe like Torres I am lacking a bit of confidence after seeing our descent in the last couple of years !

Looks like it might be a done deal and with Kenny there at the helm I am confident he can keep the lads discipline in check.

It would send out a serious message of intent from the owners thats for sure......

Nice to see you posting regularly again mate ....I know the signing of Suarez given his early track record is controversial ,but sometimes that type of baggage comes with the talent...
if anything mate it will lay down the blueprint for exiting times ahead of us ... because having a front pairing of Torres and Suarez could make us a completely different animal and a massive leap towards evolving into a formidable team under the management of the King   .......

Dalglish wrote:Hi Ben,

Its easy to see why you would take him mate but at Liverpool FC we have been making player purchases for years now and although on a few occasions we got it very right all too often we got it badly wrong !

Players such as Hyppia, Torres, Alonso, Reina, Masca, etc..... have been astute and successful buys but in the last 5 or so seasons we have bought players who quite simply haven't lived up to the hype and in many ways have gone backwards.

I am desperate for us to turn the corner and become a force again but buying a player who can help us do that is much more complicated than it first appears. The player in question (Suarez) has some pretty serious discipline problems and lets not forget his blatant handball at the World Cup. What I am trying to say is it is not just the amount of goals a player can score that matters. he has to fit into the Liverpool mould and I am not convinced he does.

Time will tell I suppose but £25 million is a lot of money and a huge gamble for me.

Walk on .............

Cringe haha

what i find impressive about suarez is his close control and quick feet, he seems to be able to make a shooting opportunity for himself in the tightest of spaces. seeing as we create so many more chances than we convert we need someone like that. if we by some miracle tie up suarez and coentrao this window i will be frigging creaming myself.

I want Coentrao too. But highly doubt we'd get him.

plus the mancs are sniffing around as Evra (30 next season) is being linked to Madrid

Well it looks like we are seriuous about signing Suarez. He caught the eye at the World Cup and the highlight reels on youtube look impressive that's for sure. Biggest questions for me are is he is being targeted to come in and partner Torres or perhaps to replace him? I've assumed for a while now that Fewrnando would be off in the summer as we don't really look like we'd be able to match his ambitions going forward. I haven't seen enough of Suarez so I don't really know his game and was hoping someone else could enlighten me. I still think Torres is at his best when he plays up top on his own but in order for the that to work we need wide players who offer a genuine threat and a quality player to play behind him. I don't know if Suarez can play this role? Can he adapt and play wide in a 3? If he's an out an out front man who will be looking to play WITH Torres then I wonder if they are the right mix. Either way it's exciting to see we're actually gonna try and bring a couple of players in to try and jumpstart the club. I also share Ian's concerns about buying players who are the right fit for the club.

There's a bit of talk about SWP and it would make a lot of sense to me assuming City no longer consider us to be serious rivals (they are stupid if they do) this season. Also pleased to see us linked with Ashley Young who is a player I like. Not so excited about the Stewart Downing talk. Am anxious that we do not appear to be looking for a centre-half though.

Scott, i don't know too much about Suarez myself...but from what ive read here and on RAWK he seems to be best as a support striker or in the hole as we'd probably call it.  But i heard he can also play out wide or as an out and out.  Apparently he is also comfortable with both feet and is a great finisher.  Sounds like a very good player to me.

Interesting point about him replacing Torres, i never even thought of that.  But Torres is nearly 27 now and still hasnt won a trophy at club level so he might be looking to move on..

I reckon though, signing a player like Suarez might encourage Torres and Reina to stay put and see what happens in the summer.

I am not over excited about Downing either Scott but to be honest we are desperate for width, he is English and I am not sure what other options there are.
Would prefer Young as he can play both flanks.

Suarez not seen enough of him, I would see an ideal partner as someone who can do the dirty work for Torres who isn't the best at holding the ball up or bringing other people into play.
A better version of Kevin Davies perhaps, someone who can link play up better but also create and score goals.

Hodgson never tried Joe Cole , when he was fit, just off Torres.

I agree we need a centre half, but perhaps with Kelly and Wilson we have the future in hand and Kenny may want to look elsewhere to strengthen. Personally a striker, 2 wide men, a left back and a centre half I feel are needed.

Probably a bit omptimistic getting all them in the next couple of weeks.

If this lad is adaptable enough to do a bit of everything ie. play in the hole, lead the line, as well as coming in off the flanks then he would (temperament aside) be the ideal player for us.

After Werner's interview yesterday I am more at ease and convinced that we are actually trying to sign some new players, and that NESV have no issue spending money this window.

My mystic meg predictions are -

Babel + cash for Suarez.  Done before next week.

Konchesky out on loan, Warnock in on loan.

A winger in.  Not my first choice, but I have a feeling it will be Ashley Young, as AV need the cash, and he only has 18 months of his contract to go.

A CB in, I'd like Cahill, but expect him to be too expensive.
