Respect - Is hodgson being treated fairly?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I know this is this forum and other forums do their own thing but the banter that was being thrown around here yesterday on here was pretty tame compared to other places. I think some were getting a bit carried away in the up in arms moaning. Anyway it's a new day, maybe the international break will do the team some good.

Simple solution...you prefer the banner elsewhere, feel free to post elsewhere.  Here the banter is strictly sci-fi related.  :;):

Wasn't much of a "Trekkie" myself. Each to their own and all that.

Andy started it Bav...quit trying to steal the glory! :no

The Firefly contribution is my own--a truly superior sci fi series senselessly cut down in its prime.

I had Dr. Spock up for a bit but no one got the joke.

Oh that firefly. Wasn't that written by the guy who wrote Buffy and Angel?  He should have been shot. Each to their own.

Question . Does Roy as a manager deserve our respect with the way he has performed in his roll as LFC manager ?

Some people use the job he's done as an excuse to say or characterise him in the most disparaging ways. Some of it has been disgraceful and it's pretty much all come from the same people who got tetchy any time someone addressed Rafa without the utmost respect. Oh how their standards have changed. Best supporters in the land? My a'rse.

What are you to do though ? We all know he's not good enough , he's not is he ? So when he makes a fool of himself and of the team and of LFC in general . Derision is the only answer i reckon , it's not my style like but i see more and more people resorting to it and i can see why . We have a manager who is lost and as a result the team is lost and as a result the fans are lost and as a result the manager gets it good style .  What Rafa had to put up with was far worse than what roy is getting and i'll tell you why .

Rafa got it off some of the fans with as much venom if not more (i've had arguements at the match mate with said muppets) but rafa got it over a sustaned period of the media . There was a campaign gainst him on sky and in the press that was relentless .

Roy has been called ba few names and a legend at our club has a had his name sung . There have been know shouts of Roy out blaha blah , but the shouting of kenny's name is a clear message .

We as LFC haven't been in this situation since pre 1959 . We havent had such a bad manager or team . This is how the best fans in the world react to utter :censored: . Noone can tell me they have seen such bad performances by a manager and team of LFC on such a consistant basis. We all know it , we are just pretty new to it ,so we must sort it straight away .

I'm not sure we are that "new to it", no. In fact I'd say we're pretty familar with "utter sh!t" after last season's showing. The Wigans and Portmouths of this world had a fecking field day when Rafa Benitez's side came to town. As for apparently deluded remarks to the media and "shifting the blame", we quite arguably saw a bit of that, too. But, for the disgraceful performances and inexplicable remarks to the press, the reaction wasn't as it is now, no it was the polar opposite. Instead of the grand p!ss takes, the abuse and the villification, the same people were demanding the strictest standards across the board when it came to any form of criticism of the manager. A journalist could give the manager a funny look and people would be up in arms. Even when Rafa talked about the priest on a mountain of sugar, the response wasn't to liken him to a comedian as was Roy after frankly a nothing comment, the response was "well in Rafa, lad. He gets us you see."

Anyway, yeah, we all know Roy's not Liverpool material we just have different ways of expressing it and derision certainly isn't the only answer; in fact the derision of the manager isn't something I associate with Liverpool fans at all, but rather the talksport or Newcastle variety. It's strange because we all pretty much agree on the manager's suitability - it's become a question of when not if he goes - and yet some still feel the need to ram their message home with a load of villification, abuse and mockery. It stinks and the sad thing is that you can be sure if there was nobody to keep them in check, they'd say much worse. It runs completely contrary to everything I know about The Liverpool Way, and it runs completely contrary to the way the last manager was treated. I thought we didn't turn on our managers, I thought we did things differently, I thought we showed respect and kept our dignity through the wind and the rain. That soon went out the window didn't it.

on the respect thing and 'the liverpool way'... i always believed that respect WAS the liverpool way (although only the most committed extend that as far as the mancs, it must be said). how many other clubs fans would applaud the opposition goalie when he takes position in front of the kop? has that goalie invested time in earning our respect or does he get respect because we know its correct that he should? even though he's going to try his damnedest to stop us scoring against him? roy hodgson, believe it or not, has actually been trying to help us win games so why does he get slaughtered on a personal level just because he's palpably failing on the professional one?

too many questions, i know. sorry for going all benny on yo asses... :;):

So what do we do ? Do we pay our £40 and sit and clap roy and the team and "get behind them " when all can see we are going backwards .Do we give our full support when there's nothing coming back in return ? Fine and dandy at Anfield lash , but what about the 3,000 away support that have forked out a good few bob ,what about them ? Are they being respected with what they have to put up with ?

In regards to the respect issue some posters seem intent on persistently raising ...surely in order for that to work it has to be reciprocated, or at the very least given in equal measure ...take for instance Dalglish from his years as a player from 1977 -1989, to his time as manager 1985 -1991 and even now in his position as Academy manager ...he has never on any occasion been openly disrespectful to the fans or the club ...
He simply followed in the humble steps of Shanks and Paisley which were steeped in the Liverpool way and he knew from the first moment he stepped inside Anfield that this club and its fans were special .....So this is my question ...Why has this magical place and the pride of the fans totally escaped Hodgson ? Why does he proffer such inane excuses for his and the teams failure ....why does he not credit the fans with a modicum of intelligence ....... how can he be as arrogant to suggest he will not deviate from the tactics he has utilised for 35 years ,even given the fact he is now at the most successful team in England .....How, Why ,When put them in any order you so wish, but they all remain unanswered questions whichever way you want to colour it ............ As soon as he gives us the replies we deserve then maybe the respect issue might be resolved
