Respect - Is hodgson being treated fairly?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Roy is what he is, an average manager who has achieved very little in the game. There lies the frustration of many supporters, he is 63, if he hasn't been a success, (won trophies), so far he is hardly likely to get any better at the job, and everyone knows that he won't be here next year so any players he buys are likely to be a waste of money as the next manager will have his own ideas.

I dont think I could ever start booing at Anfield and I respect the post of Liverpool manager, Roy himself has not really earned mine, but I hope he proves me wrong although every part of me knows that he is clearly the wrong man for Liverpool Football club.

The problem with Roy is that he uses 100 words were 5 would suffice, bigmickitis!, the other day when he was asked about Reina all he had to say was 'don't ask me stupid questions he is going nowhere, he has not asked for a transfer and is one of the most important players we have here', but no Roy went into a long monologue, which at the end clouded the issue. He bottled it with Fergie when he made remarks about Torres, (that'll get your striker on side), and only ever seems to try and direct and motivate the team when we score, otherwise he is sat down gritting his teeth, and his tactics are stuck in the 70's. No he is not the man for us, but he is what we have, hopefully we can sneak into the top four as I beleive the sqaud is good enough and a new manager next year can build on it.

The threads a bit of a non starter really. We are unbeaten in six matches, we beat the champions last weekend and are climbing the table and the crew are still sticking the boot in whatever happens. they aren't going to show either Roy, themselves or the position of manager of Liverpool Football Club any respect no matter what happens and no matter what anyone says. It's a terrible shame but that is the truth of it.

All this nonsense about "earning" respect is precisely that, nonsense. People like Igor can critique the manager while still behaving properly, unfortunately he is a rarity. If I've heard once that Rafa got similar treatment I've heard it a thousand times, and I can't work out whether the poeple who are saying it actually believe it to be true or not. Why don't they pull up some good examples of where Rafa was called a FSW or a c... on here? The answer is simple, because it didn't happen. One of the most abusive posters to rafa on here was actually Bav  You really couldn't make it up.

Correct
I would have expected that the new manager of LFC, no matter how he came to be manager would have been given immediate and unconditional respect for the job he had aquired: i.e. The manager of Liverpool Football Club. Criticised, of course. Disliked, possibly. But mocked and disrespected, never. How foolish and naive it seems now that we, as fans, were better or more knowledgable than others. That we were "above" geordies, skanks and bitters because we were different and loyal and honourable. Forget all that because we are no different to any of those pr'icks. We feel we have the absolute right to offend, mock, abuse and in some cases boo the manager. I for one am begining to accept that the glory days are gone forever and unfortunately we are sliding deeper down, not only in status but in the eyes of the football world.

i liked him a lot until the last season and a half or so, even including the one where we nearly won it. by the middle of his last season i was beginning to despair and think that a change might be a good idea - i just didn't feel he had the team playing for him 100% and the situation between him and the owners was untenable. to be honest i was also hoping for a higher class of manager than roy hodgson but that doesn't mean i'm going to stcik the boot in every chance i get. nor am i going to actively go looking for excuses to put the boot in.

there's an element of truth in this idea that respect has to be earned, but it doesn't mean that the only option up until that point is abuse.

same sentiments andy,

we will see what happens in May
