i think this statement is completely and utterly wrong, and its an ingrained belief that is causing a lot of stress on the forum. its overly simplistic and provocative to say that people defend hodgson because they hated benitez. the only person i've seen coming out with genuine hatred towards benitez is big niall, i think - most other people whated him out for footballing reasons which have been explained to death.

the reason that many defend hodgson - myself included - isn't because of any feelings about benitez, but because the guy needs to be given a chance. we know that he's probably not long term manager material, we know he's not an up and at 'em type, and we know he can be a bit tetchy with the media (even though they apparently love him). what i'm seeing is so many people who are so angry about his appointment that they'll go to any lengths to find ways to discredit him - and i don't think that's fair. he's got us on an unbeaten run and we just beat chelsea. we aren't playing drop dead gorgeous football but that's not exactly anything new.

Exactomundo. I don't think Roy is the long term answer either, but feck me now he's here we might as well give him a chance.

Maybe it appeared to simplistic...but what it was referring too, was the act of booing...it was clear that the most vocal Lucas , Kuyt and Benitez haters/abusers have in fact become defenders of Roy...it just had a certain irony to it...I myself have always been a big supporter of Lucas & Kuyt, had a huge aqdmiration for Raf and I am happy to give Roy his chance at Liverpool.....Just cruise the threads of the players to see the others besides Big Niall...

With regards to drop dead gorgeous football.....it wasn't always drop dead gorgeous in the early 80's on occassion but if the job gets done then the beauty is what lies at the end of the rainbow and not the yellow brick road....that could be the beginnings of a hit movie.!

You wanna compare one game against how many games mate? Nothing to do with Rafa i'm afraid, we're talking about Roy here...

Bingo ! There it is . Rafa had many chances to get it right, Roy hasnt.

And yes it is everything to do with rafa as the reason why Roy has been the subject of division amongst the fans. The squad that was left, the confidence levels, the attitudes. I find it amazing how Roy can absolutely do no right, he doesnt have the right attitude. And yet Rafa did.

Playing players out of position, Meireles shouldnt play on the right of midfield, no, nor should Crouch on the left.

Its a disgrace how we lost to Blackpool, yes, another premiership team, but hell lets sweep the bottom of division 1 club Reading (over 2 legs) under the carpet.

Happy with a point away to wigan, and yet a beaming smile on rafas face as we drew at home to Birmingham is fine (and lets look at the hassle roy got when we drew at their ground !)

Also, Roy wont resign, HOW DARE HE ! and yet Rafa walks away into a cushy job with a nice £6 million in his bank to do so, but hell, shame on Roy !

Also the "nobody signs a new contract until I do" attitude. Again, thats fine, but its Roy who is clueless.

The biggest one on this forum, the one I have noticed the most, "Rafa is gone, move on" as they then go into the Rafa Benitez thread praying he comes back to the club.

The whole reason the arguments, the disagreements, and the general dislike for Roy is present in every forum is because of Rafa.

Roy replaced him, and for that, he will never be forgiven.

Merelies is constantly being played out of position , - think he has only played in his rightful role once or twice . Just because he happened to Crouch on a one off 4 years ago doesnt mean people cant critisize Hodgson doing it . Your going on about people bringing Rafa up but yet your post is full of stuff about Rafa .

p.s. i would actually compare loosing to reading ( who season before were a prem team ) in a CUP to loosing to Northampton

1. The picture was removed at the request of a mod after you complained so is there any need to constantly bring it up .

2. The picture has been around for months and has actually been posted on this forum before yet you didnt complain about it then

3. There is a big difference between critisicing the manager and abusing him .

it was an example of the abuse certain members have aimed towards our manager. last season no one was this bad at Rafa, this season it seems ok to take cheap pot shots, thats what respect is about... exactly that. its like a pack of hyenas coming togetehr abusing Roy sometimes, thats why we get angry

Really ? No one ? Are you sure - cause there was plenty of abuse aimed towards previous manager - from the minority just like there is a minority abusing current manager - most are just criticising what he is doing - thats not abuse .

Did the manager show respect when he had a go at fans ?

Bullsh!t Dawson, utter bullsh!t and you know it, the abuse Rafa recieved from some of our so called fans was a complete and utter disgrace and Roy looking like an owl is mild to the names Rafa got called.

And this really is going around in circles Rafa got dogs abuse, a lot of Liverpool fans dont like Roy thats just the way it is.

As has been stated many times - just like previous managers - Hodgson has to earn the respect of the fans - it is not given the instant he takes over as manager .

not to this extent, and they were quickly dealt with by mods

the manager is trying his best, he deserves more than what some have shown, simple as.
