It's defending a corner set up. The five on the edge of the box are man markers, you've got the defenders on the posts front and back, a keeper guard, a near post header and two blokes on the edge of the box for any knock outs. Liverpool defend corners these days with the same formation each time, they pull all eleven back and look to break at pace. They man mark, not in zones. Each disk on the screen probably has a number, and they work in training I should think on different players taking up different positions in case they come on/go off as subs.

It's staggering that people who know so little about a subject will use such imagary to back up their "argument". This forum is becoming really boring to be honest.

I thought it was quite funny when you posted up the formation Lynds a few weeks back and only had ten players, when you scrolled down the page Torres was completely on his own

. That was what forums are for, making your point in a humorous, banterish sort of way and it's funny. Fair enough.

Here though, the joke isn't as funny because it follows another attempt by you to discredit the manager by talking absolute and total nonsense.

What I cannot understand about you and your followers is, what on earth are you afraid of? We were seventh last season, we are ninth so far this season (level on points with the team in seventh) so what is the big drama? By the end of the season, if we haven't improved you'll all be able to stick the boot in, unfurl the "I told you so" banners and generally have a real good knees up. In the mean time, we are just about as good as, and doing as well in the league as anyone could sensibly expect (I'd like us to have beaten Blackpool myself admittedly) so I simply cannot understand the constant drama.

Why not just let Roy do his job? You've all made your feelings clear, everyone respects that, but surely there must come a point where we just see what happens.

About the respect thing , look at roy's record before he was liverpool manager and look at it now . Everyone but everyone knew who roy hodgson was before he was appointed manager . He has been doing the job for 35years . We've played against his teams , so there is a nice tasty record there to base our opinions on . We all knew he wasn't anything special , we all knew he was average , he's just proving that his record and our opinions were correct . Now with his media f.uck ups , his dull defensive football (for the most part ) and his past record ,what do people expect . I respect the position as Liverpool manager , i do not respect roy as Liverpool manager ,because he hasn't earned or deserved my respect . Dead simple.

We knew they where wrong for the club we know everything about our club, we protect it and look after it but I wont pander to this fraud of a manager we have incharge and I dont give two shits who I vex or please.

What has happened that all of a sudden we have to give Roy a chance when Rafa was lambasted for the same results and poor displays from his first season in charge to his last?
Was it because he was this nasty forigner ruining the beautiful British game of not buying young British talent? Was it the zonal marking? was it the rotation?
What was it? Why did he deserve it but Roy doesnt?

Whats so special about Hodgson? he has spent less time managing in England than any for foriegn, British or none British manager. What exactly has his 35 years in management actually won him? Nothing of importance.

Where Chelsea, Man city, Spurs, Villa, knocking down Al fayeds door for him to manage them clubs?
The answer is NO !!!
Why is/was the answer No? Because he is not good enough.

When Fergie retires and Wenger goes on to pastures new will them clubs want Hodgson to carry on where their predecessors left off will they shite !!!!

Why not? Because he is simply not good enough.
He will never win us the premier league even if he recieved a Man City size transfer kitty, he will never win us the CL because his tactics and methods are so outdated he hasnt moved on with the times.

Apart from buying an ipad that the camera panned onto in the Napoli game heres a shot of it and this was at home but he's not a defensive manager according to some.

He believes in his methods but they have won him nothing of note, he believes his own hype and gets a cob on when people question him as to why we where playing so shite he turns round and blames Rafa or his B team.

He has never remained at a club for longer than two years, not because he's been the most wanted man in Europe like Mourhino never stays in any place for very long, no because he was replaced because he wasnt up to the job.

People can twist and turn this anyway they choose but what must be remembered at the end of the day is liverpool exsists to win trophys and be the best around.
We dont want a manager telling us he doesnt give a monkeys if we are 17th or 18th, we dont want a manager who plays for a draw against Wigan.
We want to see exciting attacking football and goals galor not 10 men behind the ball ale house, yard dog Sam Allardyce football management and Roy is of the same Ilk.

Everyones crowing about the Chelsea win and I was over the moon myself but he had the odd scalp with Fulham against Liverpool and Man United, his away record scares the life out of me out of 72 points he's taken 12 and lost 60 this really concerns me a great deal its a dreadfull record and people should be as concerned as I am about it, but aparently not give him a chance get off his case are the replies.

I think Ive said enough about it now, I am sick and tired of moaning about him and I hope that John Henry and NESV bring in a new manager to take our club forward asap.

Dont bother posting about Rafa's record last season ive heard it enough, I know all about it finishing 7th was dreadfull, the draws where awfull and getting beat was even worse so dont bother telling me something I already know about thanx.

FYI my comparison (you might want to actually read the post) was aimed solely at the first 12 games in charge. Benitez had won fuck all at that point and was staring CL elimination down the barrel.

Yet the respect and patience was offered from day one. There were no calls for his head like Hodgson is experiencing, despite having an equally poor start to his tenure as manager.

That is the point Ciggy. Benitez proved himself eventually but he was given the chance. Hodgson is not being given the chance even though his record to Rafa's after 12 game is near identical.

Just think for once, yeah.

P.s. The iPad is showing tactics for defending a set piece dopey.

I don't agree that Roy was left with a poor squad. The current squad is far better than the one Rafa inherited. When Rafa took over..Gerrard, Carra and Hypia were the only players worth keeping. Maybe Finnan as well. There was also hardly any young players worth keeping. (if any)

Roy has Gerrard, Carra, Torres, Reina and Agger. There is also a number of players that weren't brilliant but definitly worth keeping such as Kuyt, The Greek and Aqua man. He also has a couple of talented youngsters like Pacheco, Shelvey, Kelly and Suso.

Rafa had to build a whole new squad. Whereas Roy is just a couple of players off a very strong squad.

I haven't seen too many people disrespecting Roy. Obviously people have been very critical and rightly so. (we were in the relegation zone and worst start in 80 odd years).

I think one of the reasons why he isn't getting more respect is because people know deep down that he isn't here for the long term. The football on the pitch hasn't being great at all, the press conferences have been bad and the transfer window was bad.

He wasn't very supportive of the protests, he had digs at Rafa and didn't defend Torres from that C*nt.

Ive been a lot happier with Roy lately, especially since we started winning a game or two. He needs to continue that and finish as high as we can. Either way though, i think the recruit for our next manager for next season has probably already begun.

ROY Hodgson has backed Christian Poulsen to show his true colours and win over Liverpool's sceptical supporters.

The Denmark international was booed when he came on during Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic but he did not let that affect him as he made an encouraging contribution.

Hodgson, who first signed Poulsen when he was manager of FC Copenhagen in 2000, was pleased to see that, as he revealed the 30-year-old has been left “devastated” by terrace criticism.

Poulsen is well aware he has not shown the form that made his stints with Schalke 04, Sevilla and Juventus successful - but Hodgson is convinced he will come good.

“His introduction secured the point at least because he was very good when he came on,” Hodgson said. “He didn’t miss a pass and won several challenges.

“That’s what he was on there to do and he will get better. Without his introduction, with a very tired Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt, who knows we could even have lost the game.

“He can only keep working hard and when he gets his chance he has to get on with his job. He’s had one or two games in front of our crowd where he’s not played well, he knows he’s not.

“He’s devastated by that and the crowd, who aren’t stupid, know he’s not played well, it’s a fact of life. But he’s got quality, he’s a good defensive midfield player.”

It has been a tough introduction to life in the Premier League for Poulsen and Hodgson believes he has to block out the brickbats he has been receiving to win over the Kop.

“When I took him off at half-time in one game he was devastated,” said Hodgson. “Not just because I’d made the decision but because he knows he was nowhere near the level he can play.

“He knows having played in Italy, for Juventus, when you play well the crowd sing your name and when you’re not playing well they boo you.

“He knows that. But I have every faith in him. We will get a lot of good use out of him over the year but he knows it will be tough to win the fans over.

“I can’t wave a magic wand to do that, I can’t speak for them, but I’d be surprised if the ones at Wigan said he didn’t do anything for the team because he did.”

BTW the crowd wernt booing Poulson they where booing the decision of the manager who made it clear he was playing for a draw instead of bringing on an attacking option.

Of course. Its nothing personal against the player - he'd be the same guy playing the same standard of football whether it was for LFC, Bournemouth or Darlington, so its clearly aimed at the decisionmaker who brought him on.

A Track record of 35 years is a mighty long time in any profession. It demonstrates the level and ability to which you can perform or get others to perform.

It is very difficult to back someone who has not been able to consistently demonstrate that he is capable of winning big things.

Some might argue that he was never given the chance. Well, it's been rightly pointed out already - if he was considered to be a world-class manager, why hadn't other top clubs already approached him? Maybe his season at Inter had something to do with their view on his ability?

It is difficult to afford him any respect in footballing terms if he hasn't demonstrated the ability in 35 years of managing. It would be very difficult to sit and wait for a few more years while he tries to get it right, when he hasn't demonstrated in 35 years that he can actually get it right at a top club.

As an individual, I honestly did like Roy based on his handling of the media. He came across as someone with integrity. Had he continued to deal with the press in that same manner during the last few months, I might have been willing to perservere with him. But his odd-ball comments on Torres, the fans and self-proclaimed extensive footballing knowledge -which no top club really seems to care about, sort of pushed me to indifference initially, and then dislike.

With every match, the focus is on the players to begin with. Some games we win with individual excellence. Most games we have witnessed indicate that the team as unit is just not functioning game after game. Eyes tend to wander and the very next thing that comes to mind is the individual that manages the team. Questions are asked, and sometimes with passion. Not everyone can express passion eloquently on the internet without offending others reading the same material.

Inevitable comparisons are made with the former manager's achievements, when for some of us, it is just not possible to see light at the end of the tunnel. This can be construed as a negative outlook that doesn't show respect for the current manager.

I am contradicting myself now but - it isn't about respect, but simply a desire for the manager to move on as some of us perhaps don't have the same level of patience as others.

Roy is not a bad person. He just does not fill me with any hope or enthusiasm when looking forward to the next game.
