The general jist that we are a two man team and always were. The c*nts don't know what to be saying. One minute it all comes from Alonso wanting out and how we've been sh*t since, now Torres is tripe and needs to sort his attitude out for us to start winning?

What a load of rubbish that article is!  Torres hasn't become a bad player overnight.  He won both the set pieces that Gerrard converted at OT.  His wrongly disallowed goal at Sunderland was magnificent skill and finishing, not to mention he set up Kuyt 2 mins later and Gerrard again later.  He scored a very good goal against West Brom earlier this year.  Even with no service in the Derby...he still had that little header.

The problem and the reason why Torres is passing back, is because he is receiving the ball with his back to goal.  (and the Midfield miles away).
In one match, the stats showed that Torres only received 7 passes during the whole game!

The team is not very creative at all and sits far too deep.  We sold 2 of our players that can pick out a beautiful pass. (aqua and Yossi).

Create chances for Torres and he will score goals for fun.  We haven't done that.  And i don't blame the lad if he is devastated by the tactics and progression under Roy.

Let's face it - players like Hansen et al all missed the gravy train that is the EPL. So now to make a decent crust, they'll write any old controversial bollox because that's what the media crave. They thrive off of it.

Torres is fine.
Get the team to play cohesively and he will be banging the goals left, right and center.

People have been saying that 2 man team BS for years.  Then Alonso left and all of a sudden we were missing him...

:D Nobody is "scapegoating" Torres, it's simply a statement of fact to say he is playing fecking terrible. I'm sure if you asked HIM he'd tell you the same, he isn't runnign the channels, isn't showing short, and seems to have lost his fizz altogether.

That doesn't mean the manager has fecked up any less, it just happens to be true.

Showing short?

By which you mean having to come and collect. Right. So a world class forward like Torres who should be around or in the box should have to leg it to the half way line to show for the ball, then turn, beat a few midfielders that he would inevitably attract with him, run about 30 yards, beat the back line, then score? Hmm! Torres is playing with his back to the goal these days with no support of him within 40 yards. Add on top of that that he is injured and chasing down hoofed balls, then it's no surprise that the fella is off form and p*ssed off.

Hansen is doing nothing but talking bollox these days, and if proof were needed, take a ganders at these two lines, both contained in the same article.

"Hodgson inherited a squad with too many average players."

"This is largely the same Liverpool side who finished second just two years ago."

Staggering how he can contradict himself so quickly within the space of just a few lines.

Torres is suffering from the :censored: (Gerrard apart) that r "playing" behind him. We need top quality wingers simples. Turan, Krasic, Young and Afellay 2 name afew that will get 2 the by line and free up Torres in the middle. We need pace at the back  so we can push an extra 10 15 yards up the pitch as a team. We have the owners now who will back us in the transfer market. Theres no excuses 4 getting it wrong.

No not really.

A striker when he is facing the game has one of about three or four options when the players in his team have the ball. He can show short, which whether he gets it or not breaks up the oppositions back line as one has to come in with him. Equally, him showing in gives him the option of spinning off into the space he has created. If he does get it into feet, he can lay it off and go again, or lay it square to feed someone else in.

Alternatively he can move laterally along the back line in order to open up the pass in front of him so he can take it on the move. This also moves the defenders about and opens up the possibility of getting somebody else in.

Option three is he "runs the channels". This means he spins in behind either full back and takes the ball which has been played over the top. The advantages of this manoevre are firstly the passer has a big target of space to hit, and secondly it stretches the play and pins the defenderts back on their heels.

His fourth option is he stands pretty still or even backpeddles a bit while space opens up around him. Teddy Sheringham used to be good at that, as was Rush. What he mustn't do though if he can avoid it is stand in the "line of sight", whereby he lets his marker watch both him and the ball at the same time.

Currently Torres isn't running the channels, and he isn't showing short. This gives him only two options to recieve the ball. He also isn't closing down opposition defenders or making them work hard enough to knock him off the ball.

Nobody though is expecting him to come short, run 50 yards with it, beat five men and smash it in . And you sometimes wonder out loud whether other people have played football before    :no

agree with this post and that's my take on why things are not happening for Torres this season as well.
Yes he could be doing more and appears to be allowing the frustrations he has to affect his game, but i totally agree about the chasm that exists this season between Torres and the supporting midfield.

Assuming that is attributed to our Ronnie Whelan?
