He isn't going anywhere. His mood is probably down along with the rest of the squad on account of our current league position. Torres stayed with us in the summer as he was hopeful we would be taken over. I can't see him going the moment we have been sold. We just need to get some better players in during the next transfer window. However again we saw today us not pressing and Torres as a concequence not getting any time going forward. Even when he hasn't been involved in the game he will always get a goal if you give him a few chances but we are so deep he doesn't even get that.

In fairness bav I haven't got involved in football posts today (mostly because there aren't any :D) but we didn't sit deep today, aside from the first 20 mins when we were bang under the cosh.

I think this is what the manager means when he says we played well. In many respects, my predicted "trio behind Torres" formation absolutely came to pass, and both Carragher and Konchesky were often bombing on.

I quite liked the "football" side of our game today, but we quite simply got outfought for me which is obviously a cardinal sin in a derby.

And on the subject of Torres, I thought he was absolutely terrible today. Didn't break sweat.

Anyone crticising Torres obviously hasn't played a football match in a team with a midfield that creates no chances and camps more or less outside their own box. Regardless of what level of football this experience comes from or how good a player you are, you still need to be fed chances to score. Currently, the way Hodgson has this team set up and performing is a direct reflection on Fernando's form, not vice versa as some of the clueless think.

Sure, mate, we saw some of that...especially after Everton's second, when the were happy to sit back a little and let us pass the ball around.  But, there was not a whole lot of incisive play on our part.  Carra and Konchesky were game to get forward, fair play, but they weren't delivering the kind of balls into the box that caused problems.  For all this discussion of Torres as a passenger, Joe Cole and Maxi were far worse, IMO, and it was up to Gerrard to provide the drive.  Still, he couldn't do much either, as the centre of the park was very congested and blue shirts cut down all the passing angles that would do any damage.  So, while we might have done a little better pushing up in the second half today, we were still a long ways away from posing a sustained threat.

I don't know about Cole and Maxi being worse Bob, although they were both poor of that there's no doubt. Maxi kinds of does what he says on the tin so there were no surprises, but I'm in the unenviable position on Cole of possibly having to concede GYBS was right all along. He's produced little so far aside from little flashes, but hopefully he can pull his finger out of his erse before too long.

Well, on the subject of Torres, he's clearly not right.  Whether that's mental, physical or a combination of both is unclear but he's not on his game.  I think both extremes of the debate over-simplify things however.  What I mean is that:

1) I don't agree with those who say he's simply not a.rsed anymore and just needs a kick up the backside.  I think a big part of the problem is that he's not getting any kind of service at all and that accounts for quite a bit of his out-of-sorts performances.

BUT

2) I don't think it's just a matter of getting him the ball and, presto, the goal machine returns.  I think there is certainly something different about his demeanor and application this season that goes beyond our tactics and rests within the player himself.

So, it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B for me, which is a massive concern because we need him desperately to help pull us out of the sh!t. :(

I think Nando would be happier if we signed a few quality players in the next transfer window. But the problem we need to get steady things till then.
