Good shout Lad ....It seems some posters stand by that age old adage Sabres
"Only when it Suits " ..... which basically means Rafa was castigated and Roy is applauded simply because it fits their new agenda ..... some people have more faces than the proverbial clock

I actually agreed his post, it wasn't a dig to Hodgson, nor a Rafa defence, just a little joke about how we'll see overlooked a lot of things this season. We'll see some strange decissions, we'll see mistakes, maybe even some rotation about european games, we'll see a Liverpool manager doing the best he can.

Like yesteryear and the year before. It will be good for the footballing debate that every decission is not analysed with magnifying glasses, in a way it's good Rafa's gone.

Now we need time, 2 or 3 years, and we'll see where this man leads Liverpool results wise. No matter what this forum does in the mean time, there is no doubt Hodgson also will have the support of Anfield, the atmosphere yesterday was good on my screen  :D

No problem Sabre's...... lets just say it was lost in translation   :D
Good post btw

seems you got on the wrong bandwagon, again.

I think youre bein a bit harsh to single Lucas out when every red shirt that turned out earlier was absolutely rotten.

Lucas was not a defensive midfielder before he came to England. Its easy to single out players to blame but can you single out players in the city game who were outstanding?

I don't think he is being harsh at all. For a player who was the defensive midfielder of the pair he was sh!t. No hassling, no effort at all in fact.

I dont usually worry about effort with him, that's something that for me he isnt found wanting in.
But that first goal yesterday he was standing on the edge of our box marking nobody.
For me that's frustrating. I wont single players out because virtually all goals lead from a mistake or poor play from someone.
But if i am playing and i have tracked back to my own box, i wouldnt just stand marking nobody at all and leave a player free a few yards away. What's the point in tracking back if that's the case ?  ???

Yesterday the game just completely passed him by. He didn't seem to do anything - not even defensively. I'm usually very much against putting blame on individual players (as has often - and imo too often - been done with Lucas), but the fact remains that he just doesn't seem to add anything to our game on most occasions. I had hoped (and still hope) Roy would/will see this.

Edit: not that he was the only one looking bad yesterday - far from it. Our left side for example was really weak as well (and the right wasn't great either for that matter).

While Lucas does seem to be the scapegoat to all our midfield problems (granted much of his criticism is earned after continually playing well below expectations) he doesn't have many options to pass to. Now before all of you boot me off of the forum for making excuses for him, let me finish the point. While he is intolerable to watch because he either passes the ball backwards or laterally to Gerrard or a defender or lobs some prayer of a pass forward that 99 times out of 100 is intercepted, he really has nobody around him that is being creative at all and demanding the ball. The problem may not be his horrendous play, but not great options around him. Having said that, with no winger or creative player busting down the door to come play here, Lucas must become more acquainted with the bench as he really is driving me up a wall with his crappy play.

There's more to it than just who he passes to. It's whether he moves to create a better angle to make a better pass, whether he's capable of carrying the ball to make a better angle to make a better pass - or for allowing others to move into better positions, whether he has the touch, speed, agility etc.. to make it easier to manoeuvre to make a better pass; can he do this and successfully sheild the ball from an opponent, can he then execute the pass with the requisite technical skill; the speed, the timing, the direction, the spin? Can he feck. Added to the fact that he's slow, weak and all round not that good a defensive midfielder and you have a less than mediocre player on your hands. I would rather have Diame of Wigan and that is saying something.

Putting Lucas alongside Gerrard in midfield was a horrible decision by Roy.  We almost always get dominated when Gerrard plays in CM.

are you serious? Gerrard is and always be a CM, he dominated games before and will dominate games in that position. don't be daft, you sound like a person who never watched him played, look at games during houllier's reign when he single handed took us to 4th place finish in CM position in houllier's last season
