Anybody should be able to see we're light up front and overloaded in midfield. We sold Crouch, Bellamy and Keane. Who were the replacements? Hardly in the same league, are they? I would rather put Cole up front than the names mentioned, but we shouldn't be in that situation if a new striker had been signed.

re Kuyt and Babel, well the whole team struggled so putting their form down to simply not being good enough is harsh since they were in a team with no Alonso, two DMs and not a lot of players performing. Gerrard had a relatively poor season, that played as big a part as any lack of contribution from Kuyt and to a lesser degree Babel.

And you're 'singling out' Kuyt and Babel when N'Gog was the one covering Torres. Below are periods where N'Gog played most of the games, only including the games where he did play 65+ mins even if the period contains more games than results are quoted for.

09/11/09-29/11/09 : N'GOG - P4 W2 D2 L0 (2 goals)
13/12/09-02/01/10 : TORRES - P5 W1 D2 L2 (1 goal)
13/01/10-18/02/10 : N'GOG - P7 W4 D1 L2 (1 goal)
28/02/10-08/04/10 : TORRES - P10 W5 D1 L4 (10 goals)
11/04/10-22/04/10 : N'GOG - P3 W1 D1 L1 (1 goal)

What does that prove? Firstly that N'Gog was more the cover when Torres wasn't playing not Babel/Kuyt. Secondly that regardless who was up top the results were still poor so the TEAM didn't play well, it wasn't down to the striker alone, since even Torres scoring 10 goals in 10 games saw us lose 40% of our games - all away - Wigan, Lille, Man Utd and Benfica, Torres scored once in those four games

And yes, duh, we are "light up front", but when Rafa went to the one up front formation it rather restricted his options. Torres plays better up front on his own, this isn't condusive to having more than one quality striker. He threw £20.3m at a striker who clearly was too old and there were some reservations about his ability too, and when he went down that road and made that mistake it more or less ended our hopes of bringing someone in.

I'm not sure I want Woy to go shopping for a striker, I dread to think who we'd end up with.

Personally id sell Kuyt, Babel Nemteh and Ngog

Then Bring in  Romelu Lakaku and Connor Wickham

I wouldnt worry about getting rid of 4 players and only bringing in 2 because i think roy will stick 2 the 1 up front anyway plus Nemeth didnt even feature least season

Wed be slashing the wage bill, wed recoup more money then we would need 2 spend on them which would free up some cheddar 4 other areas and wed be adding another homegrown player 2 the squad. Both r young and imho better. Plus they both r good target men aswell as being technically sound

who the hell is Connor Wickham?
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Ipswich want £10m for him and he's only 17. Supposed to be the next wonder kid. Liverpool supporter who worships Torres.

He's potentially a good striker, exactly like Lukaku. Roy Keane has valued him at £10m and Lakaku is already valued at around £12m-£15m he'll go for more IMO with the likes of the Mancs, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barca etc in tow.

It's about time people started to realise that with twit & :censored: in charge we aint got the money. Another set of f(cking fantasists, the internet is full of em unfortunately. :;):

2nd verse

Again he proved he was a Red - Torres Torres
He put the transfer talks to bed - Torres Torres
He told Roy Hodgson where he stands
He loves the club and he loves the fans
Fer-nan-do Tor-res, Liverpool's number nine!

I'd be worried if Woy sells Kuyt and N'Gog, the other two are not particularly inventive sales but those two would be mad sales. We get more out of Kuyt than we would by selling him. While some may have thought Woy would dump Kuyt, he obviously sees what Kuyt gives the side, although some will be a bit concerned we're still playing players out of position - although Kuyt now looks relatively accomplished on the right.

Kuyt may have taken one in his crown jewels for the team, but some of the bashing he gets on here is a knife in the back in metaphorical terms.

And I'd be as worried if those two are who Woy brought in. Wickham hasn't even proven himself in the top flight

We can't go spending £10m on Conor Wickham just because Ipswich don't want to let him go and realise those who covet him can be milked for £££. We need to be more shrewd than go for players already earmarked as "going to be quality" and therefore show a price tag which over-reflects their potential rather than their current ability.

a lot of my family are pswich fans (live there..well did) and they say he is going to be big and the club are right to ask a high price for him, they are very unhappy that they look like they are turning into west ham, have great young players but can afford to keep them and need to sell them to get the money for the club.
was well spoted as a very young boy at Reading.

Great to see Torres back in the colours of LFC. He looked a bit off the pace yesterday but that is to be expected. A few more 30 mins or so subs appearances and we'll hopefully see the real Fernando back, and back for the long haul :)

Barcelona will attempt to lure Fernando Torres back to Spain if Liverpool suffer another disappointing campaign, according to midfielder Xavi.

As Javier Mascherano prepares to complete his protracted move to the Catalan giants, his new team mate has warned the Reds that they could risk losing their talismanic striker next summer, despite Torres reaffirming his commitment to the club last month.

Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League last season under Rafael Benitez and crashed out of the Champions League group stages, before suffering heartache in the Europa League semi-final.

Xabi Alonso joined Real Madrid before the close of last season's summer transfer window but his replacement, Alberto Aquilani, failed to fill the void in the Anfield midfield and was handed a return to Serie A with a season-long loan at Juventus.

Roy Hodgson has recruited Porto midfielder Raul Meireles as Mascherano's replacement but Xavi, who was an integral member of the Spain side that won the World Cup, has claimed that Torres 'deserves' to be playing alongside a higher calibre players as he does for his country.

He said: “The season before last Liverpool sold Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid – and now this season they have sold Mascherano.

“Being brutally honest they haven’t brought any top-class players in to replace the ones they have sold.

“They haven’t tried to improve the squad. Nando deserves to be playing with the best players like he does with Spain.

“If Liverpool have another disappointing season that will be it for him.

“Our coach Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Nando. If he wanted to leave next summer, I would imagine Barcelona to be very much in the running.

“It would cost a lot to bring both Cesc [Fabregas] and Nando to the club – but it would be worth it and, in my opinion, make us virtually unstoppable.”

Xavi, 30, also claimed that Hodgson and Liverpool had no option but to sell Mascherano, 26, after it emerged that the Argentina captain's family were hugely unsettled in England.

“It was public knowledge we had made a bid for Mascherano," he added.

“It just came down to Barcelona and Liverpool agreeing terms. Liverpool were in the weak position because their player didn’t want to play for the club.

“The player’s family was unhappy in England. There was no point trying to keep him.”

xavi might be an excellent footballer but he is also a loud mouthed arrogant kunt. it's about time he stopped believing that Barcelona is the only club in the world.
