Yeah I understand that Bob and thats why I think your in a no win situation with him but sometimes you have to take a risk - taking him off wouldn't of lost us the draw but we might of snatched a win . If we have to play him every single minute we will lose him to injury at some stage .

Had a poor game yesterday but that was largely due to lack of service which in turn was due to our non-functional midfield and lack of cohesion. Will soon be back at his best with Gerrard, Cole and Meireles behind him.  :buttrock

Liverpool legend Ray Clemence: Fernando Torres is a shadow of former self    September 13, 2010

Former Liverpool and England goalkeeper Ray Clemence has added to the weight of criticism leveled at Fernando Torres by claiming that 'El Nino' is a shadow of his former self.

Torres has been an enormous success at Liverpool since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2007 and has scored an average of more than a goal every two games during his time at Anfield so far.  Last season Torres scored an impressive 22 goals, despite injuries restricting him to only 32 appearances for Liverpool.

However, Torres endured a personally disappointing World Cup and has begun the domestic season looking out of sorts.  His performance against Birmingham City yesterday was branded "diabolical" by Jamie Redknapp.

Now Clemence has waded in on the debate and told Talksport that Torres does not look anything like the sort of player that the Anfield crowd is used to.

Clemence said, "When somebody starts playing below par, particularly somebody who is so important for Liverpool, then questions will be asked.

"Even in the World Cup, he was nothing like the player he had been for Liverpool the previous season. There was some sort of knee problem, but that has supposedly cleared up now.

"He scored two goals for Spain last week, but certainly yesterday he looked a shadow of his former self and Jamie Redknapp was very critical of him, possibly a little over-critical in my mind.

"But, having said that, Fernando Torres has set himself a level of performance now which obviously he's not performing at."

Torres is clearly off the boil let alone the pace but forgiving that the minimum you have to offer is putting a shift in and breaking into a sweat and I dont think he did that yesterday. Im not sure if he takes kindly to criticism but a manager should be having a word with any player that looks like he doesnt want it and we cant be having him falling about and shrugging his shoulders all afternoon like a spoilt kid. Torres is mint but no footballer is beyond a kick up the backside if they are not grafting on the park.

Cant believe the slating Jamie Redknapp gave Torres!

Ok he had a very bad game but there were far worse players than the pitch than him. (Maxi,Lucas)

And he bearly ever plays as bad as that, but even when he does he still scores.

As much as these comments redknapp made are completely unjust, I think it will only benefit Torres because it will make him up his game.

No way should he be dropped but sometimes he should be subbed when he is contributing nothing but understand how much of a risk that is

Bulls'hit mate if he's fit he plays its that simple! Even if he's having a minger he can still win a game in a split second!

You just dont take your best striker off no matter what...end of story!

Thats the problem baz because we have no one else we have to rely on him and keep him on the pitch every single min - he offered us nothing and a change may of brought us a goal . Other teams sub their best player because they have someone to come in a do a job - if we have to play him every single min its not going to be long until he is getting tired and injured .

ye why not. bring nando on second half. sometimes you have to try something different to stop the rot. also then ngog will think right i might get a chance here its all psychological at the end of the day. i think it would do nando good coming on with 20 mins to go hed have that bit more time and space and be fresh as a daisy.

Benny the lad needs games, even if we did have another replacement of adequate quality it would not matter, theres only one place he will come good and thats on the pitch, thats where he needs to be!

Its frustrating that hes below par,but theres only gonna be one outcome....he'll come good cause hes world class! :nod

Oh he definatly needs games mate of that i will agree and he will score goals that is a definate but sometimes when things arent going well for him or for us and sometimes he looks way out of it maybe a change is needed - sub him - get him a bit fired up for next time .

He seems to be lacking confidence at the moment but i thought it would return after the goal against west brom and the two for spain but he looked well out of it on sunday and keeping him on didnt improve things .
