Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

5million is excellent money for him if true... My guess is that Roy has someone lined up for the position because in all honesty it doesnt make much sense selling him (regardless of how bad he is) without making sure we have a backup option in place...

Liverpool have today agreed a fee for the sale of Emiliano Insua to Serie A side Fiorentina.

The left-back is now en route to Italy to discuss personal terms.

A club spokesman said: "We have agreed a fee for the sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina and given them permission to speak with the player.

"Emiliano has now left our Swiss training camp and we'll make further comment when appropriate."

Insua arrived in January 2007 from Boca Juniors and has since played 62 games, with one goal to his name against Arsenal in last season's Carling Cup.

Get Figueroa and promote Darby to the first team as covering left/right back - he can play either side as he did for the last couple of seasons at reserves. Arbeloa & Carragher had no problem playing in that position, so why not give Darby a chance?

Insua was too slow to play as a full back, nowadays full backs are really quick like Evra, Clichy, Marcelo, Bale and etc

Good luck Insua. Have to say I am a bit dissapointed as I thought with a few more years of experience he would have become a good player for us.

As for what we do now well Agger can double up as LB if need be but we need to get someone in. Figueroa looks a good shout. Is there any substance in our supposed interest for him?

I can see it 4 years from now he will be starting for Argentina in Brazil and some on here will be saying 'we never should have let him go'

Roy was out at the world cup so I dont think it was his decision to sell him. I suspect Rafa had already discussed the end of season ins and outs with Purslow before he left.

That's right Reg. Negotiations had begun before Roy was even appointed.

I think its good business if its £5m, he wasn't exactly Mr reliable. We have enough problems with dodgy fullbacks with Johnson alone nevermind Insua. Hopefully it'll get spent well but we should be more or less guaranteed to buy a left back now with Aurelio and Insua sold
