If we let him go now it will be Roys first big mistake. Especially as we don't even have a decent first choice lb let alone a backup aside from maybe agger.
@karlsentk Fans want youngsters in the team. Then they expect miracles; everyone has to be an Owen or a Rooney.

I'm concerned that Hodgson has said he likes the player and yet talks are already up to full speed with Fiorentina. Just highlights the size of the hole we are in financially, I mean who is Purslow to make judgments on a players value, whether he should stay or go? If Hodgson likes the player then he stays, it should be as simple as that. Hoping the lad from Wigan (or someone else) is lined up to come straight in as a direct replacement.

Still no middle ground i see - players are either sh.it or top quality .

He is 21. He should have it by now. Otherwise he is a liability.

You cant wait can you?

Managers have to answer questions publically in a way that leaves it open for them to do their job, and so to say you "like a player, but talks were already under way before I arrived, so I'm not sure if he'll still be here..." is doing just that. It wouldn't be wise to say you're looking to sell him in case the deal doesn't happen. FWIW, I have little faith in the Daily Mail but if it's true then I think £5m would be a good deal. This assumes the manager would get decent money to replace him, otherwise of course you wouldn't do it.

Whatever his feelings we are already in a sorry state as it is and we don't even have a 1st choice LB.
We don't even know what the transfer policy atm. Is there even a master plan?
