EMILIANO INSUA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

He was called up to the Argentina squad too wasn't he? Jesus people he might go to the world cup, he is young give him time. People here moan we don't bring any kids through. Is everyone here expecting all kids that come through the ranks to be Fowlers and Gerrards? We need to give him time and blood him into the team.

Get in someone who can come straight into the first team and let Insua be backup but for gods sake if we sell him then we are back to square 1, we will be needing a new LB and a backup. I can just see it now, whoever we get in get's injured and people start saying we should have kept Insua.

Good post Bav ,I think Insua is nothing more than a little naive when it comes to his positioning and needs to work on his heading ability ,but he is neither more a liability in the left of our defence than Johnson is on the right both leave gaps when they break forward ,I do think Insua will flourish in the Argentinian side if given the chance to impress in South Africa

Also as everyone else has been below par this season it just makes him look worse too. Ok he has been guilty on occasions but as you say that's just him showing inexperience. I am sure in time he can be a solid player for us. In a few years time his value will be into double figures for sure...

He reminds me of a raw Lizarazu Bav ,who was about the same diminutive stature as Insua ,and he was possibly one of Frances best left backs and at the time probably one of the best left backs in Europe

Let's be honest here.

How many times has he been skinned on the left flank this season?
I've lost count to be honest. And he isn't going to have more pace later!

He is all over the place defensivly, very poor judgement at the back and gets turned inside out every other game.

I am surprised people can praise Insua and Lucas this season and still keep a straight face.

I'll say it here, Insua will never be better than Riise.

I dont think Insua will ever be good enough for us... I think he can improve aspects of his game such as tackling and judgement, but he needs height and he needs pace to be a good full back and those are things that he cant gain through experience.

As he has a pretty good skill level and a good shoot he'd do ok in a league with slower tempo.

Its perverse the way people slag off every friggin' player we have. Everyone is super manager of the year and an expert on anyone whoever kicked a ball. When will this forum ever become a pleasant place to discuss LFC again instead of a playgroud for manic depressives and people haters? The players are paid a fortune because from the minute they sign terms thousands of 'fans' will turn against them and wont be satisfied until they've completed a character assissination and driven them out of the club. Destroyers, not builders. Tedious.

I dont recall any of the earlier players attracting even 1% of teh %^& you lads dole out =- not because they were better, but simply because you didnt have the medium through which to blurt your negativeness.

Supporters?   ..................................

Looks like he'll probably be off. We would then have no actual senior left backs at the club.

Roy Hodgson is impressed with Emiliano Insua, but the Liverpool manager admits “talks with Fiorentina have already started.”

The Viola have been linked with the 21-year-old wing-back for several weeks and it seems negotiations are reaching a key stage.

“I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level,” Hodgson told Radio Blu in Florence.

“However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don’t know how advanced they are.

“I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I’ll have to discuss that with the club.”

The Italian media is confident that Argentine international Insua will join Fiorentina over the summer.

He is still only 21, will turn 22 in January 2011.

I think he can defend, but like a number of our players he can switch off too readily and doesn't seem certain about his positioning or marking duties.

I think we could do with better full-backs, it is unfortunate that Rafa went in for a lot of theory two seasons ago and spent £7m on Dossena and got Degen with a view to them supplying width, even though neither is much use defensively. Then he decided to ditch Arbeloa and spend £17.5m on a right-back who can't defend, THAT is truly horrendous management in terms of signing policies. £24.5m in two seasons on full-backs and not a decent one among them - decent at the job they are there primarily to do ie defend

I think Woy needs to go out and find a couple of full-backs, Insua will do as back-up and maybe even Johnson if we can't get good money for him, but we need full-backs that can defend first, attack is a secondary role. It beggars belief Rafa wanted our full-backs to join attacks and supply width while keeping two DMs on the pitch! Generally speaking defenders defend, forwards attack and score goals, while midfielders provide chances for the forwards and join in in defence and attack. So why are we so set in a system that has defenders (full-backs) attacking and two midfielders pretty much solely defending?!?

And no way do I want Woy to put Johnson on the wing, he would just be Riise II - not good enough attacking to be a winger, not good enough defensively to be a full-back. Johnson is a luxury we can ill afford, if we had a team with players like Messi, Ronaldo, Villa etc in it then we could afford to have a full-back who can't defend. As England found out, full-backs that can't defend leaves CBs exposed and having too many attackers to defend against - although Terry and June did decide to leave the germans acres of space.

Nobody did leave until Roy was appointed so purslow didn't really lie, he was just economical with the truth. We all know you have an agenda with the owners, broughton and purslow, that's fair enough - your conspiracy theories often make for enlightening reading. However, try not to exaggerate/fantasise your ideas so much as you'll find you're inadvertently discrediting the true things you're saying in the minds of the less extremist fans.

Benayoun is the only players who's now left and he did speak with Roy before the deal was confirmed, albeit talks had taken place with Chelsea before Roy's appointment. Just because we didn't have a manager, players not at the world cup couldn't have been expected to stop life and watch the world go by.
we've only won it 5 times
