Another PL stitch up. Years of away games on the opening day and then Arsenal on the opening day. Last time was Chelski on the opening day of 03/04. The PL is doing its best to ensure Liverpool are out of the title race on the opening day.

Anyone on our opening day will face a tough task.

I'd rather face Arsenal on the first day than a Monday night in October.

August

14 Arsenal (H)
21 Man City (A)

Is not what ANY side would want to face first up, Arsenal thumped the bitters 6-1 at the pit first game last season......................................

But it's not as if it gets a lot better

01. 14/08 Arsenal (H)
02. 21/08 Man City (A)
03. 28/08 West Brom (H)
04. 11/09 Birmingham (A)
05. 18/09 Man Utd (A)
06. 25/09 Sunderland (H)
07. 02/10 Blackpool (H)
08. 16/10 Everton (A)
09. 23/10 Blackburn (H)
10. 30/10 Bolton (A)
11. 06/11 Chelsea (H)
12. 09/11 Wigan (A)
13. 13/11 Stoke (A)
14. 20/11 West Ham (H)
15. 27/11 Tottenham (A)

By game five we'll have played Arsenal home and BOTH mancs away, by game ELEVEN we'll have played four of last season's top five and had a Merseyside derby win. Fair enough by game 19 you should have played everyone, but I suppose it could be worse. You'd hope for easier games to slowly ease in Woy the new manager

If you disregard the West Brom match, lets take a look at how we fared in the corresponding fixtures last year.

Lost to Arsenal at home.
Drew with City away.
Drew with Birmingham away.
Lost to united away.

lets say we get those results again and stuff West Brom... its still only 5 points after 5!

major improvement needed.

Biggest problem for me, ignoring the bigger clubs, is our approach to the away games against citeh and brum. If we'd only look to win games instead of a far too conservative come cautious approach then we'd be in the Champions League. It puzzles me why so many are dead set against selling Mascherano when what we need is creativity and £30m we might get for Mascherano might just buy us what we need ie bigger picture

home record

07/08 : P19 W12 D6 L1 F43 A13 PTS 42 (GD +30)
08/09 : P19 W12 D7 L0 F41 A13 PTS 43 (GD +28)
09/10 : P19 W13 D3 L3 F43 A15 PTS 42 (GD +28)

Betcha didn't expect to see that come out so close in terms of points, goals and GD. The 18 away goals we scored last season in the league was our joint lowest in the Premiership

Fewest LFC Away Goals (Premiership)

18 : 06/07 (19 games, 0.947 goals/game)
18 : 09/10 (19 games, 0.947 goals/game)
21 : 92/93 (21 games, 1.000 goals/game)
21 : 04/05 (19 games, 1.105 goals/game)
23 : 99/00 (19 games, 1.211 goals/game)
24 : 95/96 (19 games, 1.263 goals/game)
24 : 96/97 (19 games, 1.263 goals/game)
24 : 98/99 (19 games, 1.263 goals/game)
24 : 07/08 (19 games, 1.263 goals/game)
25 : 05/06 (19 games, 1.316 goals/game)

So Rafa only gets FIVE entries in the top 10 or bottom 10, whichever way you wish to look at it, three out of the worst four, and five of his six seasons in charge. Fair enough they had more games in the first three Premiership seasons, but that is still the same even if ordered goals per game instead of goals then goals per game/season order (oldest first). Ironically he also has the most away goals in a Premiership season, 36 in 08/09. Shame he didn't put two and two together and realise away goals got him close to the Champions.

In 08/09 we scored 3+ goals away from home SEVEN times, in 09/10 we did it just three times - at Burnley, West Ham and Bolton with the latter two being 3-2 close calls. And in 08/09 we failed to score just three times on the road compared to NINE in 09/10 - Chelsea, Sunderland, Blackburn, PORTSMOUTH, Wolves, Arsenal, Man City, Wigan and HULL. (some pretty ordinary sides in there, two of whom in CAPS were relegated)

i dont usually like your posts with stats owzat but i think the last one summed up alot about where things went wrong last season.
Away from home the way we were set out and the tactics employed were far too safety first.
Our travelling fans had the p!ss taken out of them last season.
