EVen he is someone who has never performed to his potential on the international stage. Obviously he is creating for the players around him but it's not quite the same Messi we see playing for Barca.

People expect sparks to fly from his boots like in that advert, and thunderbolts to fly from his hole as he runs. They expect the antics of Maradonna, but that is stuff of legend and doesn't happen much often these days. Thing is, whenever Messi plays, teams fear him and put man-to-man markers on him and he still manages to have a decent game. Wayne Rooney struggles to control a ball that drops from 10 feet with no one around him, yet he's the best striker in the world.

messi is the best player in the world but I don't think he is on the level of Maradonna so you players just cannot pass the ball to him and expect him to beat 4 men every time.

I sort of agree. i said before the tournament that they'd get the semis, however Argentina have strong pedigree too and I expect them to beat Mexico.

Tell you what If Mexico approach this game with the same cavalier attitude they have shown in previous matches we could be in for a scorcher, and about 16 goals!

A disallowed goal is punnishment enough, but then 2 extra goals when you try to come back is too harsh.

Unbelievable nor the ref nor the linesman didn't see that ball in.

Unbelievable.

I know Sabre, even though I hate Spain, I wouldn't wish that on Spain or any other team, but in truth Sabre, in truth those four goals we conceeded was down to poor defending on our part and for that we can no qualms about disallowed goals, balls hitting the cross bar and Lady Luck not smiling on us. You create your own fortune in this game and we just didn't look like creating anything. We deserved to go home today. Smokescreens are going to be used, but the cracks are all too plain to see within the realms of English football, more so today, even though we have one of the best managers in the world here, we still failed.

Yes there were mistakes but I don't think Germany is superior to England on a normal day, and certainly I know the difference is not what the score says today.

These days quality is warranty for nothing -- Spain could have perfectly gone home had Chile didn't play so passionated.

I think England has one of the best 8 teams in the world, and one of the best managers. Then football is about luck and weak links. In a key and underrated position, the keeper, you have a weak link since Peter Shilton retired. It's difficult to remember a single champion in the history of football with a cráp keeper.

That weak link led to this too early game against Germany in which lady luck wasn't English today.

But I have no doubts and I say it without an ounce of passion, that England right now is one of the 6 best teams of this tournament. But there are some other strong squads out there and the disaster may happen. I wouldn't put a lot of money on Spain winning on Tuesday, football is pretty unpredictable when teams like Germany, England, Portugal or Spain meet each other. We have one of the best 3 squads I think, but we may perfectly go home early, like England.

No excuse though...England played sh'it Im embarrassed for them.Well beaten by a far superior team and tbh it could have been by a lot more!

Its a reality check, they think they are all great players..there are a few but they just cannot play as a team and having a manager that fuc'ks about in pre match games so much and plays the wrong system with players out of position does not help!
The players never performed and the manager made mistakes and that is why they are out as they deserve!

People make excuses saying they were under pressure and all that....bullsh'it!All teams are under pressure. The only thing that they can cling to is that Italy and France were worse and that takes some doing!

A little less arrogance and a bit more pride for the shirt is needed...Sadly I feel they will go away make excuses and think it was just not our day,we are better than that...its a load of balls..they think they played well beating SLOVENIA 1-0!

Sorry but England as a team are light years off Spain,Argentina,Germany etc.
Its time they realized it too!

I disagree Sabre. On paper England have a top 8 team and in stark reality, they're not even in the top ten. There's too many captains and not enough cooks in the England squad, it's all talk and sensational spin with these players, then when it comes to delivering they are nowhere to be found, but wet and dreary, clingly frantically to their proverbial life-raft.

The real problem is the English media and their influence, cut off their influence and then a manager can manage England without any shackles placed upon him. Let a manager play a different formation, a different style and with players who aren't considered the creme de la creme of English football. Had Capello had the backbone that his reputation in football suggests then he wouldn't have omitted Darren Bent, Tom Huddlestone, Adam Johnson and Scott Parker. Players who would have given more to England than seasoned International veterans like Wayne Rooney, like Frank Lampard, like SWP, Aaron Lennon and Gareth Barry.

I'd have even taken Bobby Zamora ahead of Emile Heskey, why? Because he was in form and in form players are always a safer bet than out-of-form part timers like Emile Heskey ect, but there you go. Zamora is not a household name, his house doesn't appear on Come Dine With Me, therefore he is not worthy enough to play for England. Total nonsense.

I expected us to go out in stylish fashion, but 4-1 is a bloody disgrace, I ended up putting on the Inbetweeners half way through the second half. Enough is a enough and English football from top to bottom needs a drastic overhaul.

The English way of playing is not a successful method, we need to learn how to keep possession, we need to have flair and drive in our play, we need to have consistency and urgency, passion and pride in ourselves. The players need to put down their £16,000 bottles of Champagne and in John Terry's case, his best mates girlfriend. Countries like Mexico, Chile, South Korea, Ghana and Uruguay have shown England up at this WC. These countries do not have superstar, £120,000 a week players and this is why IMO they have all had far more successful WC's than England.

Mascherano saying that was my first foul just after the ref forgiving one to the Mexicans. :D

Good game. Mexico has a strong midfield, and their "european" players have imported a well needed intensity in their pressing.

Mexico has grown. But Argentina has Messi.

Why is it that people refer to Mexico as South American when they are apart of North America?

Anyways, that Carlos Salcido fella is an amazing defender, does he still pay for PSV? Surely he is worth a punt for a few million?

Tevez scores.

Offside, yet another disastrous decision at this World Cup.
