i suppose he could put finnan back on the right but i'd rather not see that as it's not his position. it's one thing playing a player there to "do a job" but we really need players out wide who can hurt the opposition.

Yes, stmichael.
This goes back to the thread that we need to recruit another striker.
Kewell has proven before of his pedigree, but Finnan is able to do a much more adequate job.
For the away fixture, I would stick with Finnan as he is currently more reliable than Kewell.

the thing is that kewell never had any real competition in the left wingers place, and i think that now with Warnock Kewel knows that he has to proove himself and i think we will see the real kewel. for tonight tho, if he is not 100% then he can not play, simple as that

it's exactly the same with lauren robert at newcastle. he had no competition for years, despite churning out one good performance every blue moon. now he's lost his place.

for me, kewell has no god given right to get back in this team.

Kewell just isn't producing anything like his best at the moment and Warnock's done well when he's been given the chance, he deserve's to stay in the team.

several reason why warnock has to play tonight:
1. It's fair to field him instead of Kewell being injured. It could be the only time for Warnock before Kewell possibly regain his best (hopefully), while warnock should be treated carefully in order to secure his promising future from being too demanded at such high stakes before he gets his optimum maturity.
2. Warnock is currently, regardless of whatever, better than Kewell
3. Liverpool may reap the advantage of Warnock being more confidence and experienced if he plays more games
4. Kewell should be well-rested for his health sake as soon as possible  (we really need you at your best). Some matches have proven his performance is far under par when he's not fully fit

Kewell's shown next to nothing this season, and if he's carrying an injury, why the hell would Benitez play him ahead of a youngster who - by all accounts - has been on fire since he broke through into the first 11?

Warnock got his chance after consistently good performances on the training ground and in the reserves. If Kewell wants to have any future at the club, he's going to have to be competitive, knuckle down and do exactly the same thing. He had it all too easy under Houllier with a back-up squad of utility midfielders like Smurf and Smicer, but now that we've got a damn fine dedicated left winger in Warnock, he'll have to get his hands off his hips and earn his corn. He's not consistently good enough to be an automatic pick, and right now, he's not in our best 11.

kewell's only got himself to blame if he's still carrying this persistent ankle injury. he should have had surgery in the summer while he had the chance instead of p#ssing off on holiday. gerrard sacrificed playing in the WORLD CUP for christs sake, to have surgery and get himself fit. turns out to have been the best decision of his career when you look at how he has matured and performed since then. :)

While you wouldn't expect every player to have done that, it does demonstrate a very clear contrast in Gerrard and Kewell's attitudes towards their club.

As a kewell fan, its hard for me to say this but warnock should play instead of kewell. It is an away match & we can't afford another pedestrian performance from kewell. Futhermore warnock provides better defensive cover than kewell. This allows risse to run at opposition defence & hopefully score a goal or 2.

yeah, kewell has to get his knees or ankles (anything else) sorted out. And it has to be now. I rather he miss the whole current season *and comes back a much better player next season) than putting in 1/2 a$$ performance. Very disappointing to see him play these days.
