Does anyone remember that Dad's Army sketch where after being trampled by the lads as they exit the cinema during the national anthem, Mainwaring subjects them to 6 playings of the anthem throughout which they have to stand to attention?

Leaving them in Jones' hands he goes into the office where the Vicar is sitting at the desk. The Vicar refuses to stand up and let Mainwaring have the chair, at which point the national anthem can be heard from the other room. Mainwaring and the Vicar stand side by side with the chair in the middle. Mainwaring's face and moustache twitches are a sketch in themselves as he tries to manoeuvre himself to be nearest the chair when the anthem ends.

Captured German U-Boat commander: "You boy, what is your name?"

Capt. Mainwaring: "Don't tell him, Pyke!"

the welsh national anthem is a great piece of music but god save the queen is an embaressment.
when you think of all the great poets, composers and musicians this island has produced you`d think we`d come up with something better than that.
from chaucer and blake right through to lennon and mccartney thats the best we can come up with - typical  :glare:
dads army was great, the casting was perfect in fact it was inspired.

not sure what one you mean, in the rugby internationals at landsdown road you have about five of them, you`re the only team that takes a set list with them onto the pitch :D
there`s plenty of good ol irish song`s that get a crowd going anywhere in the world. athenry for a start.

i remember at world cup 98 when Chile played Brazil in the last 16, Zamorano the Chilean captain was singing his head off, ive never seen a player sing with such passion! he inspired the rest of the team and they all started screaming the national anthem.
